About Sizzling Wok Chinese Restaurant
Sizzling Wok Chinese Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant in Stafford, at 1 Wolverhampton Rd, serving all-you-can-eat dishes that guests order through the waiters rather than from a self-serve buffet. The menu runs to 76 dishes, and the soups include Szechuan Hot & Sour Soup. Diners order starters first and then move on to mains, and once they are on mains they cannot reorder starters. Small plates come out with each order, and more can be ordered as the meal goes on. Food that goes uneaten has to be paid for. Children's pricing follows a height chart on the wall, and anyone over 1.4m pays full price. Salt and pepper mushrooms and teriyaki chicken are among the dishes the kitchen prepares.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise freshly cooked, hot food at this all you can eat restaurant, with teriyaki dishes leading: teriyaki chicken and pork in teriyaki sauce. Close behind are black bean sauce dishes, including fillet steak and sizzling chicken with noodles and rice. Others name the hot and sour soup, mixed starter platters and salt and pepper mushrooms. Food is ordered from the waiting staff in rounds, starters first and then mains, and several describe the staff as friendly and accommodating of a large group with infants and a vegetarian guest. The criticisms are pointed. One diner found the room cramped and the service intrusive, with waitresses constantly leaning in and moving plates, and called the battered beef and chicken mostly batter, the ginger chicken like plastic strips and the food too salty, served in very small plates. Another notes that uneaten food is charged for, starters cannot be reordered once mains begin, and taller children pay the full rate. One reviewer found the lemon honey sauce thick and overwhelming. One group finished with ice cream, candles and a birthday song from staff.

“So let's be honest. It's not going to be gourmet food. But it is the best Chinese all you can eat in the area. Food freshly cooked. Staff friendly and caring. Drinks are reasonably priced. And overall a good experience for the typical all you can eat Chinese. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area.”

“The business is wedged between the Co-op and another shop, so you look out onto cars constantly going in and out. We were seated at a large table for a birthday meal. It was a horrible place: cramped and more like your nan's lounge than a restaurant. All of the waitresses were very pleasant, but the service was far too intrusive. They were constantly leaning into the table and moving plates around. I have never experienced such intrusive service before. The price of £29.00 for this so-called buffet is daylight robbery. No desserts or coffee are included. It's a clever setup for them because they only bring out very small plates of food but tell you that you can order more. The only dish I liked was the chow mein, and it came on a side plate. I asked for another portion but was told there was already one on the table. That one wasn't even mine. The drinks are extortionate as well. The food was absolutely disgusting. I think it's all from the rejects section of an Iceland warehouse, loaded with sugar and salt. I didn't feel full at all despite eating various dishes. The battered beef and chicken were mostly batter, and the ginger chicken was like plastic chicken strips. During the night I drank a pint of water, that´s how salty it was. This was honestly the worst meal I have ever had and a horrible, manic experience. I cannot believe the rave reviews for this place. I paid £75.00 for two people. That was for two meals and three drinks. It still grieves me when I think about how long it takes me to earn that amount of money. I would absolutely not recommend this establishment and will never return.”

“Best takeaway we have had in a long time. Some friends recommended the Chinese food served here, and they were right - it’s freshly cooked, full of flavour and sizeable portions for the price. A couple of weeks ago we had the teriyaki chicken and prawns in a ginger and spring onions. Tonight we had fillet steak in black bean sauce. Couldn’t fault any element of the dishes and will definitely visit again.”

“The restaurant is a lovely cosy place, the staff provide excellent service, polite, caring and patient. Their food tastes incredible, it's fresh with fair portions, and a variety of choices. I have no bad words for this restaurant, I will be a recurring customer, and glad to have found this place.”

“Another great meal at sizzling wok. We were a large table or 14 people plus 3 infants. The staff were extremely accommodating to this and high chairs were provided and a place to store our prams safely. The food came out quickly and lovely as always. We had a vegetarian within our group and the staff advised clearly what was safe for them to eat and provided recommendations. It was our first meal out after having our son and the staff made the experience lovely for us. My favourite of the food items we had was the hot and sour soup and the mixed starter platters. This restaurant is very reasonably priced and is a favourite for our special events. I also had the sizzling chicken with black bean sauce with noodles and rice. The portion was perfect to try multiple dishes after several rounds of starters. This was definitely one of my favourite main options. At the end of the meal the staff brought out ice cream and candles and sang happy birthday which made the experience. We cannot wait to come again for my husbands birthday in March”
