  “I’ve now tried every Chinese in Shoebury, barring Wongs. Tonight, that changed (Thursday 09 April 2026). Interestingly, this one always seems to come out on top whenever the old-age question of “what’s the best Chinese in Shoebury?” does the rounds on the local Facebook group. Who knows, maybe even you reading this have stumbled into the same debate. Well, fear no longer, because I’m here to confirm that Wongs Chinese is… fine. That’s it. Fine. I personally wouldn’t give it the accolade of “best Chinese in Shoebury” that so many seem to. That still belongs to my regular, which was unfortunately closed tonight and therefore forced this culinary detour. I had chicken in cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce with mushroom fried rice. It was all cooked perfectly well and the portion was generous, but the flavour just didn’t show up. The sauce was watery, slid off the chicken like it wasn’t committed, and the whole thing tasted rather bland and flavourless. Not terrible. Not amazing. Just fine. If my local Chinese takeaway history in the Shoebury area is correct, Wongs is the longest‑established spot, which probably explains why it has such a loyal following. Some people on Facebook speak about it with almost cult‑like devotion, as if the place has never served a mediocre prawn cracker in its life! But for me, there’s better out there (it’s certainly not the worst in Shoebury). My regular still holds the crown though, and tonight only confirmed that.”

  “I don't know what has happened to wongs but the food was not good the ribs were cooked to death no meat or them and and so dry you couldn't eat them, prawn balls were sort and really greasy so was the pancake rolls and chow mein and the the portion sizes are now in small containers so making the food really expensive and not worth the money I tried to ring and complain but the phone went to BT call minder”
