About The Lunch Box

The Lunch Box is a cafe in Southampton, run from a freestanding catering kiosk in the B&Q car park. The business was established in 1997. Orders go through a serving counter, where the staff serve customers directly. The menu includes hamburgers and cheeseburgers cooked to order, bacon rolls served hot, and breakfast wraps. The kiosk is self-contained and equipped to prepare fast food and refreshments, which lets it serve both the public and staff working in the local area. Heinz ketchup and HP sauce are available for the food.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the burgers, with a cheeseburger described as proper tasty and a hamburger with onions cooked while the customer watched. Close behind are the hot, loaded bacon rolls and the breakfast wraps and baps, which one regular calls not greasy and well worth the price. Friendly, quick service comes up repeatedly, and one reviewer likes that proper Heinz ketchup and HP sauce are used. Value splits opinion: some call it fairly priced, while one reviewer found a bacon roll a tad high compared with a café in Hedge End, and another called the burger place overpriced. The sharpest complaint describes blunt, rude service, with a Dr Pepper can request met by shouting that they had run out and no onions offered on a burger. Another reviewer describes a long wait for burgers that came out wrong and then a further wait for the corrected order. Two folded chairs left unset was a minor gripe from a bacon roll customer, who still found the roll hot and cooked to order.

“Probably use The lunch box once a week, they do great breakfast wraps and baps, well worth the price as not greasy and cheap tasting, very polite service and very clean and hygienic, I love the fact that they use proper Heinz ketchup and proper HP sauce.. definitely recommend if I could give six stars I would.”

“Stopped by the Launch Box while I was at B&Q and honestly, the food was fantastic. Had a cheeseburger and it was spot on, proper tasty and really hit the spot. The staff are really friendly and the service is quick. Definitely the best part of doing DIY! If you're in the car park and hungry, just get one, you won't regret it.”

“The young girl serving was friendly and my food - a bacon roll - was served hot, cooked to order. My only complaint is I thought the price was a tad high: £6 for a bacon roll whereas the café in Hedge End does them for under a fiver. There were two folded up chairs, which I didn't notice until I was halfway through eating. It would have been nice if they had been set out.”
  • Alex Nolan
“Friendly service, reasonably priced, good food. Roll was loaded and hot, perfect on a drizzly Sunday morning.”
