About Dancing Man Brewery

Dancing Man Brewery is a brewpub on Town Quay in Southampton that brews its own beer on site in a listed historic building, with the brewery visible from the back. The taps carry a mix of keg and cask beers, including pale ales, bitters and a stout, and Big Casino IPA is one of the named pours. A street-level bar handles the drinks, while a dedicated restaurant sits upstairs. The kitchen turns out pub dishes such as ribs, and a Sunday roast with beef is served. Wood and stone cladding lines the interior, which is filled with knick-knacks.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return to the beer brewed on site, with the Big Casino IPA named repeatedly as a standout, alongside a Hazy IPA, Vagrant and Necessary Evil. Diners describe a wide mix of keg and cask, and staff who help match a beer to taste. Food sits close behind: a Sunday roast, ribs described as tender with a fantastic marinade, a burger, a chicken sandwich at lunch and a pork belly one reviewer plans to reorder. Reviewers also praise the building, its decor, the street-level bar and the spacious upstairs restaurant. The caveats are portions and consistency. One regular says portions have shrunk, with a single serving of veg shared between three people, and the server replied that it was not the first complaint but offered no more. Others call the food good but not remarkable, one says the menu is limited at times, one finds the roast beef chewy, one finds it a tad expensive, and one describes slow service though kind staff. One reviewer closes a visit upstairs after starting in the bar.

“Been here a few times and it's always been a good experience, a wide range of beers, good food (and plenty of it) and friendly staff. The beer and friendly staff remain but the food, while very nice and well cooked, was a bit lacking in the portion department. As I stated, we've eaten here before and have never been disappointed but the portions have definitely been reduced, one portion of veg between three people was very surprising and when we mentioned it, the server said that ours wasn't the first complaint and that they would pass it on to the kitchen, no offer of more. I'm not after a free meal or free anything but I feel a bit short changed to be honest.”

“Great beer! I had a lager and was very happy. I didn't try the food, but I'd like to come back during dinner hours”

“The atmosphere here is perfection. Lots of greenery and accentuated lighting. Food was good- very seasoned. Service was slow, but the staff was very kind.”
