Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draw the most comment, and reviewers split sharply on them. Regulars describe fish that is always massive, cooked to a diner's preferred level, and served hot and freshly cooked, with chicken kebabs bursting with meat. One first-time visitor found the doner meat soft and thinly sliced, with fresh salad, though the chips were few. The complaints carry real weight. Several describe chips that were dry, burnt, overcooked or undercooked, and fish that was black in parts, looked old or was mostly batter. One diner says the last few visits left out curry sauce, chips or chicken, and that the southern fried chicken has turned soggy. Service is mixed. Some praise friendly, accommodating staff, while one reviewer describes a slow Friday evening held up by a bulk order and a bossy manner toward younger staff. One reviewer reports finding a hair under a kebab. A few call prices high. One reviewer who threw away a fish meal said the fish was just batter and the chips were dry and burnt.

“First Time Visit. Dispite the fluctuating quality and consistency issues and or mixed reviews .. i can only speak of today. My opinion does not stretch to any other item on the menu today. As for prices.. its like petrol stations.. once the rest know a higher priced forecourt is "getting away with it " they start bumping their own prices to match or use any excuse to do so and not do anything to warrent the increase( except for the new high end car. (( my opinion)) People marking "atmosphere" as 5/5? It's not a "night club". When your the only one in there what atmosphere is this.? Arr boy... if the smell of frying chips gets a 5/5 i can only picture air fryers up and down the country wired into Strobe lights and smoke machines for that extra special "atmosphere " Sometimes I think these reviews are planted and or just friends of. Honesty brings improvement, "altered" or "skewed" reality brings complacency and then ultimately decline. At the end of the day you review with your wallet or purse. You can really only be disappointed once to spoil an experience, so an opportunity should/could be given for them to prove otherwise.. if they value your custom and there high priced items for our low priced wallets and purses then it will show.(for the most of us who havent got money to waste but like a "treat"...) TODAY I Got the Doner Meat and Chips.. with salad..Salad was fresh looking and tasting, finished all of it... Doner meat was soft and very thinly sliced .. I know the jury is out on what doner slices should be, thick n crispy or thin and ham slice like... not all that many chips but I guess enough to accompany the rest. (Was a small container). Tasted above "good enough" I tasted much much worse. A reasonable balance of all components I assume compared the higher priced "full fat" version kabab was i guess value? .. though probably get the same from other places for £5. The man behind the counter was running the ship alone however was attentive and "professional" as a chippy server could be. Not over "friendly" like some places but enough to engage for your requests. However.. all said and done ...a tasty munch on the day. Well worthy of a visit. Only reason not top starred on this occasion and possibly any is that there should always always be room for improvement. Remember, perfection is a journey not a destination. ?apologies for any typos I've missed?”

“The food used to be lovely when you got it all. Sadly the past 3 times I've been something has been missed out. Curry sauce, chips or the chicken. We have a fish allergy in our house so we can't share the chips. The southern fied chicken used to be lovely now it's soggy and mushy.”

“I've been using this place for decades, not just years. I've just spotted some of the negative reviews and I am baffled. Its been a family business for as long as I can remember and I've never had a bad experience or bad food. The fish is always massive and the kebabs are bursting with meat. Sure its a little pricey but nothing out of the ordinary these days. It can often be extremely busy too but that just shows the popularity with the locals. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my fish and chips or chicken kebabs frankly.”
