About Desi 2
Desi 2 is an Indian restaurant and bar in Smethwick, run as a desi pub where the grill leads the menu. The mega grill mixed platter anchors that side of the kitchen, bringing chicken tikka, lamb chops and other tandoori items to the table on one plate, with chicken tikka also available as a starter in its own right. Curries come with naan breads ordered alongside, and chips arrive in chilli, battered chilli and masala versions as sides. Dishes are cooked fresh, so plates take a while to reach the table. TVs around the room carry live football and boxing. Reservations are recommended, and the restaurant opens daily. A step-free entrance makes the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor seating gives the option of eating in the open air. Drivers can park on the road around the back.

Customer Review Summary
The mixed grill, ordered as a large, a medium or a Desi Mega Grill, draws the most comment, with fans singling out chicken tikka, lamb chops and cod fish pakora, and one describing everything as freshly cooked despite a long wait. Close behind sit the curries, with a longtime regular praising thick curry sauce and another enjoying paneer butter masala, while the chicken tikka starter, keema naan and masala chips also get named. Several mention watching football and boxing over a pint. Roughly half the accounts are unhappy: one describes a mega grill largely cremated, a chicken drumstick swapped in for tandoori fish, and food arriving over an hour later in a near empty room, another found the butter chicken closer to dal and the staff rude, and a few say quality slipped under new management and chefs. One diner reports being handed the wrong takeaway curry, sitting in oil, after a dispute over chilli chips arriving battered that ended with the chef discounting the mains.

“I had great memories of times in this place, but I hadn't visited in over 10 years. Then I saw a news article that it's going to be demolished to build flats, so I had to make sure I got a final visit in. Inside and outside, not much has changed. It still looks quite rough, but I like that nostalgic old skool Desi Pub vibe. The beer selection is quite limited but the prices are very good. £3 a pint for most of them. We ordered a Desi Mega Grill. It had Chicken Tikka, Chicken Wings, Lamb Chops, Cod Fish Pakora, and Tandoori Fish. For our Curry, we went for Paneer Butter Masala. We ordered Butter Naan, Garlic Naan, and Battered Chilli Chips for our sides. The prices on the menu were very good already, and then we were given a further 20% off on top which is apparently a deal they do on Mondays to Thursdays. All of the above food came to a total of just around £35, which is unheard of in these times, so I wasn't expecting anything special. It took quite a while to come out, but for me that's a positive sign it was being cooked fresh and properly. When it did come out, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Genuinely everything was delicious, nothing was lacking. It's going to be a sad day when this place is gone.”

“Great place to go before the Football for a few beers and something to eat. Food is very good and would highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Starter and a Keema Nan.”

“I’m giving a 1star because I liked the chicken tikka, the butter chicken was pathetic as it tasted more like dal curry with chicken in it. Very rude staffs. Went in with high expectations and now left with regret. Waste of time and money.”
