Quick info
About Sandy Lane Fish & Chips
Sandy Lane Fish & Chips is a fish and chips takeaway at 108 Sandy Ln in Skelmersdale that serves both Chinese dishes and English chip-shop food. On the Chinese side, the kitchen makes fried rice and prawn toast. The homemade chop suet rolls come spicy on request. Fish is cooked fresh to order, so a wait is possible, and it can be requested lightly battered. Chips come in large portions, wrapped in paper rather than served in small trays. Set meals are available, and the team accommodates substitutions. Payment is cash only.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the fish and chips, praising generous portions of chips and fish that several describe as fresh, lightly battered, tender and flaky. One says other chip shops hand over thick, overcooked, rubbery fish when asked for light batter, and that this one gets it right. Close behind are the Chinese dishes, which some call lovely and delicious, and one reviewer picks out homemade chop suet rolls, including a spicy version. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, helpful and pleasant, and one says the set menu is adjusted for dislikes. Value comes up often, with some comparing it favourably to another local chippy. The Chinese food draws the sharpest complaints. One reviewer describes a beef, green pepper and black bean dish with pale beef, a watery sauce tasting of cinnamon and undercooked vegetables, and another found the prawn toast greasy and the prawn wonton rubbery and bland. A further reviewer says portions shrank under new management while prices stayed the same. One reviewer notes the shop is cash only, and another says the fresh cooking means the wait is fine.

“The chips were delicious and plenty of them the beef green pepper & black bean sauce another story beef did not taste or look like beef it was very pale in colour the sauce watery & tasted of cinnamon unclear of why that was actually in there in the first place about 3 black beans 2 under cooked slice of carrot & 2 undercooked pieces of green pepper it was awful it came with a portion of stodgy fried rice and for that reason I won’t be returning.”
