About Empress Of India
Empress Of India is an Indian restaurant in Sittingbourne, at 24 East St, with a large menu that leaves room to customise dishes. Many sides sit alongside the mains, so a table can build a spread around dishes like chicken tikka masala and tandoori seekh kebab, with keema naan on the bread side. Big group bookings are a regular part of the dining room, and the wide choice gives a larger party room to order a mix of dishes. Cobra beer is on hand for the table. The interior has been recently refurbished, with a leather bench and wooden slats on the walls.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken tikka masala and tandoori seekh kebab anchor the praise, with keema naan, mushroom rice and garlic rice with large slices of clove also named, all in big portions. Several regulars describe eating here for close to 18 or even 30 years and finding nothing else as good, citing succulent chicken and great flavours. Service comes across as friendly and welcoming, including to children and large parties, and one delivery order is described as arriving hot. One reviewer notes a recent refurbishment with a leather bench and wooden slats, though the little things that kept dishes warm on the table are gone. The criticism is narrower but specific. One diner felt badly overcharged for onion bhaji, garlic naan, two sides of rice and a beer, and another found the karahi chicken tikka dhansak had no visible lentils and tasted like a tikka masala. A birthday party of 17 left with food to take home.

“Just had a meal for my grandson's 30th birthday. There were 17 of us as well as other customers. The food was delicious and really good portions, so much so that a few of us have taken food home. The service was second to none and all the people who work there were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend 👌”

“Eaten here for nearly 30 years. Have tried others but nothing is quite as good. Succulent chicken, great flavours, and service to match.”

“Long-established local curry house (since 1991 - wow) – this place has long been the best curry house in Sittingbourne. Been visiting here now for almost 18 years, consistently good. Firm favourite. Not sure if under new ownership or just having a refresh, but the place has recently undergone a rather dramatic internal refurbishment – out with the old pink carpet and in with a big leather bench, wooden slats on the walls and a more modern vibe. Change is a constant, but it remains very easy to fear. On first impressions the food remains as excellent as it always was, with the same menu remaining in place and the quality still high – the little things that keep the dishes warm on the table have gone though. The menu here is a big, offering wide latitude to customise your meal in a variety of different ways – there are many sides and the overall game is strong. Opted for a tandoori seekh kebab on this occasion, with a chicken tikka masala, a keema naan bread, mushroom rice, a couple of sides. All very good – big portions. The beer, of course, was Cobra. As it was and as it should be. Although once upon a time they did Mongoose, which was not Cobra, yet was also the beer. Overall, if you’re looking for a great curry, you can’t go wrong choosing this place – they do seem to do a good trade in big group bookings as well, as there is often one in. Definitely recommended.”
