Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what reviewers return to Thyme Café for, with the roast beef, pork with crackling and light, fluffy Yorkshire puddings singled out, and one diner whose family of eight had special requests handled and a pink beef order sorted without fuss. Close behind are the homemade chicken and mushroom pie, the fish pie with parmesan mash, and the sticky toffee pudding. Several mention the back garden as quiet and relaxing, and parents describe fish and chips and a Moroccan salad that suited a young child and a summer afternoon. Staff are repeatedly called friendly. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who found the second Sunday roast arrived as dry pork steaks, disputed by the waiter, and said the 50% off offer had changed from main and dessert to starter and main without anyone saying so at ordering. That reviewer also called the desserts very poor on both visits. Another found the fish pie sauce a bit watery and the food slow to arrive, though fresh and hot. One reviewer notes a student card for 50% off future meals.

“Sunday lunch!!! Amazing serving, amazing service. Great Sunday lunch, yorkies light and fluffy, gravy just right, meat (our table had beef - perfectly cooked, pork - great crackling) and veggies. Service friendly and attentive.”

“Sunday Dinner, family of 8... just fantastic! Booked over the phone and had special requests catered for perfectly. We all had the Sunday Dinner offer with Desert and the quality and value for money is superb. It was my Dad's birthday and there were a couple of lovely touches that made the afternoon even better. The roast beef came out pink and I'd forgotten to request well done and it was sorted without any issue. I've had a few Sunday dinners at various places over the years but none better than this. Thank you!”

“Very hit and miss this place. And beware the 50% off food offer. Make sure you know the terms and conditions because it’s pot luck if the staff will tell you. The food is either spectacular or only just okay. We had a really lovely family Sunday roast one week, it was absolutely excellent. The following week we ordered the same, but it was very different. Extremely dry pork steaks instead of the lovely roast pork we’d had before. Brought it to the waiter’s attention and told (in no uncertain terms!) that’s how it always comes. He hotly disputed what we’d eaten before telling us that’s how it always comes. So we’d obviously got lucky the week before as no way would we go back for more dry pork steaks masquerading as roast pork. We’d received the 50% off food offer text again, but when we asked for the bill we were told the offer had changed to starter and main not main and dessert as before. No one mentioned this to us at the time of ordering (unlike previously when it was clearly explained as we sat down). The waiter pointed out it was our fault for not reading all the terms and conditions. A simple explanation at the point of ordering that the offer had changed slightly would’ve sufficed. Not to mention that we wouldn’t actually be getting the lovely roast we were expecting. The desserts were very poor on both occasions. Maybe that’s why they’ve switched to starter and main. Better service would’ve gone a long way to keeping us as returning customers, but they clearly don’t need that.”
