About Nether Edge Cafe
On Union Rd in Sheffield, Nether Edge Cafe is a coffee shop and bakery working from a counter of handmade pastries and cakes. The sourdough sandwiches, among them salt brisket with emmental and Henderson onions, anchor the food menu, alongside a sausage roll and recurring desserts like chocolate cake and flapjacks. Coffee and cake are a common pairing here. The space is walk-in only, with no booking needed, and the step-free entrance allows easy access for visitors with mobility needs. A wooden deck wraps around the building for outdoor dining, and dogs are welcome to join. High chairs are available for families with young children. It opens daily through the day, closing in the evenings.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the baked goods and coffee, with the sausage roll the clearest standout: one diner calls the leek, apple and sage version more a meal than a sausage roll, and another shared one on a chef's recommendation. Close behind are the cakes and sweets, including orange and olive oil polenta, chocolate cake, a chocolate and raisin flapjack, plum and apple crumble and a cinnamon bun, alongside good coffee, an Americano and a warming chai latte. Savoury picks include cheese toast, a cashew pesto and vegan feta sandwich with a generous portion, and sourdough or focaccia sandwiches. Several describe the staff as friendly, the atmosphere as cosy and relaxed, and the wooden deck as a place to sit in the sun, with dogs welcome. The one recurring caveat comes from a hot-day visit, where a reviewer found no shade outside, a stuffy interior and a constantly running blender that forced diners to raise their voices. Another reviewer, by contrast, found it quieter than nearby cafes, and one says they told the staff how exciting the polenta tasted.

“Efficient staff without being excessively friendly. It was a very hot day when we visited and there were no seats in the shade outside and very hot inside which was a little uncomfortable. Quite noisy inside too with the blender constantly going - we had to speak up to get ourselves heard. But you can’t fault the choice of food and drink, which all looked excellent. Prices about what you’d expect.”

“Wow! Just wow! First impression as I walked in was very quaint a bit Rustic, then I saw the Amazing pastries and cakes on the counter all hand crafted. Not made this is not made food it's created by someone who loves what they do. Staff friendly, chatty if spoken to (no-one wants people talking at them when not invited) I ordered the Leek, apple and sage sausages roll which was outstanding not really a sausage roll more a meal in itself it had a pickle on top which literally blew my mind the flavours were sending my taste buds into a bit of a frenzy trying to figure out what I was eating! My dessert I had Orange and olive oil polenta, once again first bite was an experience textures and flavours so good I felt compelled to tell the staff how exciting it was. The chef is the owner a super nice guy who said Hi as I came in id barely noticed his presence as he is such an ordinary kind of guy. But this man is an artist. Thankyou Nether edge café 10+ out of 10”

“Cosy, different but recognisable menu, staff added character to the visit whilst out for a walk. Chef recommended the sausage roll which we shared between the two of us to keep us going. Chai latte nice and warming on a cold day.”
