About Gilmours Coffee Shop
Coffee leads the order at Gilmours Coffee Shop, a coffee shop on Greystones Rd in Greystones, Sheffield, where dairy-free milks are stocked alongside the standard pours. Hot chocolate is a regular request, including for children coming in after school, and the counter also sells cakes and pastries by the slice, among them a blueberry crumble cake, plus sourdough toast and other sweet bakery items. The space is small and often busy, with seating inside and a few tables out on the street for anyone who prefers to sit outdoors. Dogs are welcome, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children, while a step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. There is no booking, so customers order at the counter and take a table as it comes. It runs daytime hours through the week, closed on Tuesdays, and draws groups meeting friends as well as families.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is what draws the most repeat praise, described as great, extremely delicious, and the best in the area, with several reviewers returning to meet friends and family over it. Close behind are the cakes and pastries, singled out in the form of a blueberry crumble cake called a generous portion and sourdough toast that one parent's daughters go mad for, while two reviewers name the hot chocolate as the best in Sheffield. Others mention the dairy free milk choices, the handful of street tables that catch the sun, and staff described as friendly, welcoming to children, and hot on cleanliness. Service is where the dissent sits: one visitor felt like an inconvenience to the counter staff and found the cake pricy, though another calls the bakery treats reasonably priced. A regular describes being refused permission to plug in a laptop charger in a half full room, told the cafe did not want to become an internet cafe, and says they won't return.

“In an area with a lot of choice for coffee shops, Gilmours is hands down my favourite and my go-to place for a coffee with friends and family. The coffee is great, the cakes and pastries are delicious and my girls go mad for the sourdough toast! The staff are always really friendly and service is fantastic! I think the thing that sets it apart from others is that I can go to Gilmours with my two daughters and not feel like I’m putting anyone out by being there, we’re always made to feel welcome with the kids! It’s got such a warm, friendly, relaxed atmosphere, like being round at a mates house. I honestly couldn’t recommend Gilmours enough - an absolute gem!”

“This is my local coffee place since moving to the area. I’ve been a number of times now and thought it would become my regular. I’ve asked previously if it was okay to use my laptop as I know some places don’t like it. Each time they’ve said it’s no problem. But the last time I went, I asked the server who was delivering my coffee to the table if I could plug my charger into the plug beside me. This was more as a courtesy as they’ve also been fine with this before. He said no, and didn’t give a reason for it. I was a bit stuck, and it felt very unfriendly. I changed my coffee for one to go, and explained to him that it’s been okay before so I didn’t understand why it was an issue that day (the cafe was half-full, and not busy), so that was why I was leaving. He said they didn’t want to make it an internet cafe. If that’s the case, they should have a clear, uniform policy on laptops. I felt so uncomfortable, and won’t be back sadly.”
