About Wawin Vegan Chinese (Sheffield)
Wawin Vegan Chinese is a cafe in Sheffield at 110 John St, serving a fully vegan Chinese menu built on tofu and mock meats such as mock chicken, mock fish and prawns. The kitchen makes a vegan chicken chow mein with an option of flat rice noodles, along with salt and pepper chicken and vegan sushi. The sushi takes time to prepare, so it suits an earlier order than a last-minute one. A set meal for two covers shared orders. The space has a couple of tables for waiting while food is prepared rather than full sit-down dining. Payment is cash only, and cards are not accepted.

Customer Review Summary
The mock chicken is what most reviewers return for, with diners calling it tender and tasty, and one saying it was hard to believe it was vegan. Chow mein is the dish named most often, alongside salt and pepper chicken and chicken satay, and reviewers praise big portions with a good ratio of food to sauce rather than a box of mostly sauce. The vegan sushi and the Schezuan king prawns also earn praise. The main complaint is delivery. One regular reports orders arriving well after the quoted time, phone calls going unanswered, and an order forgotten twice, and advises going in person instead. Others describe the space as just a few tables for waiting on takeout, with food supplies stored near the entrance and a side street that is not the cleanest. One diner wanted more steamed dishes, and another found the food medium. A couple who ordered the set meal for two got two meals out of it.

“Food was delicious, great variety to choose from. I’ve seen a few comments one here about delivery time, we went in to order so can’t comment on that. Our wait time was short and staff were friendly. Would definitely recommend coming here!”

“Food is great. Prices are about right. Delivery service is awful. Presentation of food in person is great. Staff are lovely. I absolutely love their food, it's my go-to takeaway in Sheffield. But, at least three times when I've ordered, the order takes 40+ minutes more to arrive than they said. They don't answer the phone half the time. They've completely forgotten my order twice. Go in person - don't order takeaway.”

“Looking to eat something after being in Decathlon for small shopping i found out that this vegan chinese restaurant is very close, therefore I chose to come and give it a try. Very close to Bramall Lane, on a side street , not the cleanest but still acceptable. A bit complicated to find a parking space around. The service was decent and the food was medium but i do recommend it for those accustomed to Chinese food . I had noodles with tofu and rice which was pretty decent and my mum also liked her tofu with onion and rice. Price was affordable and , i will definitely come back in the future.”

“Wawin has fast become my favourite Chinese takeaway. The fake meat is the best I've had from anywhere, especially the chicken. The portions are big and the dishes have a good ratio of stuff-to-sauce (i.e the box isn't mostly sauce and nothing else!) Special shout out to the chow mein and chicken satay”

“We really enjoy our chinese takeaways from Wawin. They are really good for vegan, vegetarian, peacatarian or flexitarian and have good dairy free, egg free, fish free options that use mock meats and mock fish & prawns or tofu or veg if you like them more. We got the set meal for 2 and it lasted us 2 meals very good value for money. Tasty, not watery and big portions. Food was hot & well packaged for collection from their new premises will be returning to the restaurant soon. Thank you ☺️”
