About Magic Wood Café
Magic Wood Café is a cafe set in a small courtyard directly on the Trans Pennine Trail, with cycle racks for passing riders. The outdoor seating area has been refurbished and sits under gazebos, giving walkers and cyclists a sheltered spot to stop. Bacon sandwiches and sausage and egg butties are recurring orders, alongside tea and cake, with lactose free milk available for those who need it. Hot and cold drinks, snacks, and ice creams round out the counter. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, making it a practical stop for anyone walking the trail with a pet. There is no booking system, service runs on a walk-in basis at the counter. The café opens Tuesday to Sunday during the day, closing on Mondays. The courtyard setting, right on the trail itself, is the main draw for passing trail users looking to break up a walk or ride.

“Wow what an excellent cafe on the the Transpennine trial. Felt very welcome as soon as we entered. Covered outdoor seating just in case it is raining! Unbelievable value (£4 for a large bacon roll!!), services and quality of food and drink. We had a bacon roll and sausage and egg, very generous sizes and very tasty. Highly recommended and will stop again.”

“Perfect If your like me and you like a lovely bacon sandwich and a hot drink whilst out on a walk on the TPT. Service is always great, as is the food, plenty of snacks and hot drink to choose from to please all the family, also very impressed with the newly refurbished seating area. Myself and the family love a visit and were very glad you are back open 🙂 - see you again soon!”

“What a beautiful setting for a welcome break. The sandwiches are very reasonably priced and are delicious 😋 Couldn't fault the service either, very friendly. We'll definitely be calling again very soon. Kind regards Ady”

“Great little horse-box-cafe nestled away in a small court yard along the trail, prices are perfectly reasonable and the food is DELICIOUS! Best mid bike-ride sausage n egg Sarni ever had and the coffee was ‘bob on’ too. Plenty of cycle racks to contain the bikes and obviously it’s dog friendly as it’s outside, although sheltered in the courtyard with Gazeebo’s over head. Make sure you stop and give them custom or we will lose this Gem!”

Customer Review Summary
Walkers and cyclists on the Trans Pennine Trail stop here mainly for the bacon sandwich, with the sausage and egg sandwich close behind. Reviewers call the portions generous and the sandwiches tasty, and several say the food is delicious. Hot drinks and coffee get a nod too, along with tea and cake, ice creams and snacks, and one reviewer notes lactose free milk was available. Prices come up repeatedly as fair, with one diner pointing to a large bacon roll as unbelievable value and another saying the café does not charge the premium typical of such places. The friendly service and welcome are mentioned again and again, and several credit the owner. Reviewers also like the sheltered courtyard setting with covered outdoor seating for wet weather, the cycle racks, the refurbished seating area, and the picturesque stretch of trail. No review raises a complaint. One returning visitor was glad the café had reopened, and another urges people to give it their custom so it is not lost.
