About Hallamshire Hotel
Hallamshire Hotel is a pub in Sheffield, housed in an old building at 182 West St with a live music stage upstairs. Gigs take place on that upper floor, so the venue works as a music stop as well as a place for a drink. Downstairs, a DJ plays music in the bar, and cocktails are on offer alongside the usual pub drinks. A room is also used for small events. Door staff stand at the entrance. The pub opens evenings only, Monday to Saturday, and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the refurbished interior of this West Street pub and music venue, with several calling the new look epic or praising the decor. Close behind are the beer garden at the rear and the cocktails, which one reviewer says are to die for. Others mention a good selection of drinks for small events, a wedding held here before the makeover, and staff described as friendly and caring. The live music stage is upstairs. Against that, three reviewers describe rude, dismissive door and bar staff. One group says they were refused entry with no exact reason given and felt discriminated against, though no one was overly drunk. Another reviewer reports that a friend who became unwell was pulled back inside by a bar worker and that door staff photographed the group. A different account says a friend was not let in to check on an unwell companion, and that cocktails were free poured. One visitor loved the setting but found the music dreadful, with the DJ refusing to change anything even though nobody else was there.

“Updated interior, old pub/music venue on West St. Didn't eat not even sure they do food, so can't rate. Beer yard to the rear. Toilets easy accessible. However the live music stage is upstairs.”

“Awful experience from start to finish. The staff were incredibly rude, especially the girl in the grey outfit, who was dismissive and unprofessional. The bouncers were just as unpleasant and showed no empathy whatsoever. Our drinks were not measured too which was concerning, the woman bartender just free poured them! We had cocktails. The worst part was when my friend became unwell. Instead of allowing me to go in and check on her, they refused to let me in, despite the circumstances. It was a complete lack of compassion and basic customer care. The staff laughed in our faces and was ignoring everything I was saying. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of bars that know how to treat people with respect. Even spoons is more welcome than this place. Unfortunately, I have been advised by a few people not to go here and ignored that but after this experience I definitely understand why!”

“I have never experienced such poor treatment at any venue. From the moment we entered until we left, both the door staff and bar staff were consistently rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. When ordering drinks, we were ignored and left waiting for several minutes despite there being no other customers at the bar. The staff showed little interest in serving us and made us feel unwelcome from the very beginning. The situation escalated when one of my friends became unwell, at which point we decided to leave. As we were doing so, a member of the bar staff (a woman with short blonde hair) grabbed my friend who was already unwell and trying to go home, and forced her back inside the premises. The rest of our group was prevented from following to check on her welfare, causing considerable distress. The conduct of the door staff was equally unacceptable. Rather than handling the situation professionally, they laughed at my friend and our group, photographed us on their phones, and spoke to us in an heavily intimidating and disrespectful manner. Their behaviour left us feeling threatened at a time when we were simply trying to ensure the safety of an unwell friend. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so unacceptable that I feel compelled to warn others. No customer should expect to be treated in this manner, particularly when they are dealing with a friend who is unwell. I strongly urge the management of the Hallamshire Hotel to investigate this incident thoroughly and take appropriate action. Until meaningful changes are made, I cannot recommend this venue to anyone lest they experience similar or worse treatment than we did.”

“Stopped here during our trip and loved the setting. Unfortunately the music was dreadful, and the DJ refused to change anything. Fair enough at first, but nobody else was even there. Nice pub, bizarre experience.”
