Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out friendly staff, including a server who handled vegetarian and nut allergy questions and a chef who cooked a Sunday roast and chatted at the table. Food comes close behind, with a chicken burger, salt and pepper chips and chicken wings praised, along with large portions. Consistency is the recurring complaint. Several returning diners say recent meals fell short, citing rock hard mash, an overdone chicken Kiev, sea bass with crushed potatoes and no sauce, and eggs like a rubber ball. Some describe slow service, including waiting for drinks and carrying the bill to the bar, and one says an order never arrived after paying. One reviewer reports that the fish made a friend sick. A hotel guest describes a dusty room, a dirty kettle and no door chain despite being told one would be fitted. One diner found the kitchen closing around 9pm, so no dessert could be ordered.

“Booked a meal for 11 adults and 3 children for my wife’s retirement on a Sat at 6.00pm. We didn’t want anything too formal and were allocated seating in the Library room, whilst not exclusively for our party it was intimate enough and we were not inconvenienced by a few diners in the same room and hopefully they were not inconvenienced by our party 😃, a perfectly good setting. We ate from the main menu, starters, mains and puds and all the dishes were tasty, well presented and good sized portions, excellent value, we all enjoyed our food and the kids £10 3 course menu was also very good value. No complaints with the drinks and again reasonable prices. Finally all the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble but a special mention for Joe who primarily looked after us to ensure we had a very enjoyable and trouble free early evening, thank you Joe a credit to the company. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings, food and drinks and service, ( including all the pre booking arrangements with Clare and Anne) we were not disappointed in what was our first visit to the establishment and I am sure it won’t be our last. Thanks to all at the Eccleston Arms.👏🏼 Ian & Debbie Dunn”

“We stayed at the Eccleston Arms over the weekend of 17 July, travelling all the way from Spain to attend an event being held at the hotel, and what a great choice it turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome by the lovely Anne on reception, who checked us in with a smile. We stayed in Room 7, which was spotlessly clean and perfectly adequate for a weekend stay. We happened to visit during an exceptional heatwave, so air conditioning and a mini fridge would have been amazing, although to be fair neither are advertised, so this certainly wasn’t a criticism. We ate in the restaurant on our first evening and were looked after by Clare, who is an absolute superstar. Manager, host, waitress, problem solver… she seemed to do it all effortlessly. My daughter is vegetarian and we both have nut allergies, and Clare was incredibly knowledgeable, reassuring and helpful. The food was fresh, delicious and honestly far exceeded our expectations. We were expecting typical UK pub food, but this was on another level. The only thing we noticed, and this is purely from the perspective of being restaurant owners ourselves, was that there were quite a few younger bar staff who could have been a little more proactive. It would have really helped Clare if they had been clearing tables, putting chairs back and checking whether guests wanted another drink. It certainly didn’t spoil our experience, but it was something that stood out. Breakfast the following morning was included and once again Clare looked after us. She even let us know they had vegetarian sausages available, which made my daughter’s day. Then Ste, the chef, came out for a chat. We ended up having such a laugh with both of them. I honestly don’t know how they manage to be so upbeat and full of energy first thing in the morning, but they gave us the best possible start to the day. Later we attended the event, which included an all-you-can-drink brunch. Anne kept the drinks flowing all afternoon and Anthony was another member of staff who clearly loves what he does. Everyone genuinely seemed happy to be at work, which says a lot about the company culture and really enhances the customer experience. Our room was serviced by Rhianna (or Rhiannon, apologies if I’ve remembered the name incorrectly), who was another cheerful, energetic and incredibly thorough member of the team, despite working in the unbearable heat. Before we left, Clare helped us with our overloaded bags, Ste cooked us a fantastic Sunday roast, we had more laughs with him, and he even offered to carry our luggage to the car. Service like that can’t be taught, it comes from people who genuinely care. A quick 20-minute Uber ride had us back at the airport, rounding off a brilliant weekend. A huge thank you to everyone at the Eccleston Arms. Fantastic food, genuinely wonderful staff and a great location. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.”

“Used to go here a lot over the years as food was great, and music was great, the manager was lovely. But since coming this year the food is over priced and not worth the prices. Was left once with no food after taking our order and paying for it. The fish made my friend sick. People who bring their dogs, leave them isolated and ignored, to which they get restless and want to go out and make noise, but ignored by so called 'owners' so shouldn't really bring dogs in, just my opinion when they're not well looked after.”

“We had such a lovely stay at Eccleston Arms. The whole place feels really welcoming and comfortable, and the rooms are beautiful — clean, cosy, and finished to such a high standard. The food was gorgeous and everything just felt easy and enjoyable from start to finish. A special mention to Cath, who really made our stay. She was so friendly and attentive and couldn’t do enough for us — it made such a difference and felt really personal. We’ll definitely be back, such a lovely place to stay 🤍”

“Food is amazing, the food was full of flavour. Large portions. Pleasant staff. Cosy atmosphere. Only let down was we were not informed that the kitchen closes around 9pm so we couldn’t order a dessert. Maybe this should have been mentioned earlier so we would have ordered one sooner. Would visit again though.”
