  “I’ve recently been back to Ye Olde Dun Cow in Colton, and I have to say, the difference from my previous visits is absolutely incredible. On previous occasions, the experience has been disappointing. There was a manager who seemed to give the impression that customers were more of an inconvenience than welcome guests. We were often told the pub was fully booked when it clearly wasn’t, and the general attitude and atmosphere made you feel as though they didn’t really want you there. It was enough to put you off coming back. However, things have clearly changed — and what a difference it has made! From the moment we arrived this time, the management and staff were friendly, welcoming and genuinely pleased to have us there. The atmosphere was completely different, and the whole experience was relaxed and enjoyable. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and attentive. And the food was exceptional. Everything was beautifully presented, full of flavour and clearly prepared with care. It was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had there. It really does show how much difference the right management and staff can make to a business. One person with the wrong attitude can have such a negative impact on a pub’s reputation and customer experience, whereas a friendly, positive team can completely turn things around. Credit where credit is due — the current management and staff deserve a huge amount of praise. Ye Olde Dun Cow feels like a completely different place now, and it’s fantastic to see. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I would now have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it to friends and family. Well done to the whole team — keep up the great work!”

  “Food is always to a consistently high level. Have visited a number of times over the years. The service is always helpful, friendly and efficient. The food itself is tasty, fresh and consistently to a high level. With genuine specials of the day and a great range of food to suit all tastes including gluten free, vegan and vegetarian - we always look forward to our special nights out. Visited again last night and had another stunning meal.”

  “We have visited and eaten at Ye Olde Dun Cow many times when staying local, however this time we decided to actually stay in the pubs own rooms. These were fantastic Great accommodation Excellent price Wonderful breakfast included too. Set us up for the day. We had three rooms for the stay. Every meal we had was as always tremendous The highlight was the pork belly, chicken kiev and steak and Sunday dinner. Great range of drinks too. Service was excellent from every staff member. Kris and Georgie run a great business and are amazing hosts. We cannot thank them enough for everything they do. We can’t wait to be back.”

  “We didn’t stay, but did eat as a group of friends. I’d booked for the wrong night (my fault) but was still accommodated. The food and service were great and everyone had a good night. Really great service and we really appreciated how they were happy to make up for my error.”

  “Myself and my party visited for Sunday lunch. We have never been made to feel so unwelcome anywhere. So much so we cancelled our food order, left, and definitely will not be returning. The staff were extremely rude. We felt as if we were an inconvenience. On arrival we were told to "wait over there". Our table was not ready despite the restaurant being quiet and there being other available tables. We were advised they "couldn't get rid of the previous party" A special mention, in a negative way, must go to the waitress who took our order. She did not say hello or welcome, did not smile, did not even make eye contact with any of us. The couple sitting next to us witnessed what had happened and I have no doubt were equally unimpressed/upset. They themselves, we felt, had not been attended to/served as they should have been. We noted the same serving waitress treating them in a rude/couldn't be bothered manner. We have to wonder if they will complain also? A very disappointing end to our day out. We then left to a mumble of disapproval from another two barmaids We feel the staff seriously let the owners/management down. I emailed the owners to detail our experience/visit but to date they have not bothered to respond.”

  “This would most probably have been a nice place however after google searching avd checking the food service closure times my friend and I started on a 6 mile walk from Colton so that we ended up back there to have our evening meal once we had finished. The food was supposed to be served until 9pm. We arrived a little after 8.30pm to be told they hadn't been very busy so had closed the kitchen early. Thehy weren't very sympathetic and didn't suggest any alternatives. Be careful if planning around their food service times as they choose to close whenever they want. In contrast we rang the Wolseley arms who said they were planning to stop serving food soon but would wait for us and could not be more helpful.”

  “My third visit. Had a lovely meal tonight. Great varied menu very well executed. Good wine selection and most available by the glass. Friendly helpful staff. Consistently good, I’d highly recommend dining here.”

  “I stayed here last night and I was very impressed. The staff were very helpful, flexible and friendly. The room rate was very reasonable and the room was ideal. The locals were very welcoming and friendly too. The stand out had to be the food. I had expected the usual pub fare, given the prices. However, the food was truly exceptional. The a la carte menu was extensive, complimented with a great specials board with several fresh fish options. I opted for one of latter and it didn't disappoint. In London you would be looking at double the cost for food prepared and served to this very high standard.”
