About The Tuning Fork
The Tuning Fork is a family-run independent café restaurant in Houlton, Rugby, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its evening format is Fire & Fork, a live fire cooking service that gives the kitchen a distinct dinner offer beyond the daytime café menu. Breakfast and brunch dishes include eggs Benedict, and a Sunday roast is also on the menu. A stocked cake cabinet covers coffee and cake. The kitchen works with local suppliers, including Joseph Morris Butchers and Bitteswell Farm. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices sit on the menu, so mixed groups can order from the same kitchen. Dogs are welcome, which lets visitors bring their own along.

Customer Review Summary
Slow service is the recurring complaint. Several describe long waits to be seated, to get a menu or to place an order, with one saying food usually takes about 40 minutes with no warning. One diner left after a further 15 minutes without anyone taking their order, then waited again at the front desk to pay. Another sent back a Tai Red Curry with pink chicken and said the response from staff was dismissive, with no apology.

“Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience here. The restaurant looks lovely but the service was extremely poor. My friend and I waited a long time to be seated, despite the restaurant not being busy. During this time, two female members of staff were standing nearby having a general conversation rather than acknowledging or assisting us. We were then given a cake menu, which we were happy to look through, but nobody came over to take our order. After waiting, I politely asked one of the waiters if they could take our order when they had a minute. Despite this, another 15 minutes went by and nobody came over. At this point, we had been waiting for quite some time and decided it was best to leave. We walked over to the front desk and waited another five minutes, with several members of staff around the desk. While some were understandably busy, others appeared completely oblivious to the fact that we were standing there waiting to be acknowledged. Eventually, I had to walk over to a waiter on the main floor myself and ask if we could pay before leaving. The staff came across as rude, complacent and uninterested in providing any level of customer service. What made it more frustrating was that the restaurant wasn’t even particularly busy, so there really didn’t seem to be any reason for the lack of attention. It looks like a lovely place and I’m sure the cakes would have been great if we’d actually had the opportunity to try one. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience.”

“Sunday roast meal was abundant and tasty. Was difficult to get the attention of the staff to even get a menu after being seated, then even longer to place an order. I enjoyed the meal but probably spent 15-20 minutes more than I needed to.”

“Went for lunch yesterday having been coming here many times for a number of years. I ordered the Tai Red Curry and presentation looked fine (although I have never had one with large slices of chicken)and the sauce was dry and lacking. I cut into one of the chicken pieces and knew by the texture it hadn’t been cooked properly. There was a red vein in it. I put it to one side and ate a couple more pieces which were fine but then my final piece of chicken was very pink inside so I left it. Service was really slow and when the older female staff member eventually came to take our plates away I showed her my undercooked chicken. To my utter surprise no apology she just said the chef would disagree as he probes all the chicken to ensure it’s cooked! I could not believe what she was saying. I said having had campylobacter twice from uncooked chicken I have to be extremely careful. To be honest it doesn’t take a probe to prove it’s cooked through it just checks the temperature in the part they stick the probe in. The waitress took the plate to the kitchen and didn’t even have the courtesy to come back to me with a comment from the chef or an apology. Clearly this must be a regular occurrence!! We asked a lovely young lady for the bill paid and left and will not be returning. You expect better customer service from senior staff members disgraceful behaviour. Photos attached!”

“Really tasty brunch/breakfast food! And the place is very nice and cosy! However, the service is very slow every time. We wait quite awhile to have our orders taken and then even longer for the food to arrive, its usually about a 40 min wait for food and there is no warning about how long your order will take. So you'll often see people looking around and waiting for someone to serve them or for food to turn up.”
