About The Rising Sun Inn
Set on Cwmavon Rd in Pontypool, The Rising Sun Inn is a family-run traditional pub where clocks form part of the decor. Drinks include a selection of real ale, along with other options on tap, so the bar gives beer drinkers a choice of pours. A Sunday roast is served, and it must be booked in advance, so anyone planning to eat it reserves a table ahead of the day. The pub opens daily, which leaves every day of the week open for a visit.

Customer Review Summary
The beer garden is the most frequent draw, described as large, stunning and fantastic for families, with reviewers also pointing to great views. Close behind is the traditional, family run feel, with a good selection of real ale and a great selection on tap. Food gets mixed mentions: one diner praises the soup of the day, curry and lasagne, another calls a Sunday roast one of the best they have had and says booking in advance is needed, and a third raves about the chicken chow mein, ribs and crispy beef. Reviewers also mention the clock decor. The main complaint is slow service. One family reports waiting over 25 minutes to be served, then over an hour for starters and another stretch for mains, with staff citing a sick call and offering a few chips as an apology. A party of 20 says the food was slow and the place is very small, though it suits smaller groups. One reviewer says the starter was basic, with no salad or butter.

“What a vibe, as a clock enthusiast I was in my element. Took me back in ‘time’ to when I was a little girl visiting my nan. The decor was timeless, as a postie my favourite clock is in a small cabinet bottom shelf to the right, you will know which one I’m talking about 😉”
