About New Jade Garden
New Jade Garden is a Chinese takeaway at 74 Ebrington St in Plymouth, open daily and only in the evenings. The menu follows the familiar takeaway range, with chicken balls and chicken sweetcorn soup for starters and egg fried rice on the side. Chicken features across several main dishes, and sweet and sour sauce is on the menu too. Vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers round out the list. Delays in waiting times are common at busy periods.

“Chicken chow mein was more vegetable then noodle, cookery different to how EVERY other Chinese does it (not in a good way!) Chicken balls fine, Chicken sweetcorn soup lovely, avoid chicken dishes (chilli chicken, honey chicken etc) as they are also mostly filled with veg with a few pieces of meat! Would definitely not go back here ever. Also no free prawn crackers on a £30 order puts it further down the list”

“Unbelievable food. One of the best Chinese we've tasted. Brilliant! Highly recommended. Thank you”

“I don’t think the person wanted to cook at quarter to close, especially just an order of salt and chilli chips but I really appreciate the effort. They were amazing, crispy, salty and spicy, really hit the spot after 8 hours travelling in one day. Thought I’d say thank you!”

“Good food, but absolutely appalling service on delivery. First time they couldn’t find the address, but didn’t call, so good was very late. The tofu was extremely spongy, and tasteless, unlike other takeaways we have ordered from. Second time they delivered chicken to a pescatarian, and they became argumentative on the phone, saying we had ordered chicken and not prawn, but clearly on the online confirmation, it said prawn. Took another half an hour for correct food to be delivered, which ruined a social evening. The third time, we called after an hour and a half as we hadn’t received our order. They said it had been delivered (to a different address). They once again became argumentative. Went to the address they said they had delivered to, but camera footage showed no delivery. They eventually delivered our food after 2 hours, which is unacceptable for a diabetic who had given insulin in preparation for a meal being delivered within an hour as stated on the order confirmation. Will not itder from them again.”

“This is the most delicious Chinese ever. The food quality and portion sizes are really good! We order on a regular basis and sometimes there are delays with the waiting times, but it’s the same everywhere you go. Definitely worth the wait!!!”

Customer Review Summary
Most praise centers on the food itself, with reviewers calling it delicious and citing really good portions, crispy salt and chilli chips, lovely chicken sweetcorn soup and fine chicken balls. Spring rolls and egg fried rice split opinion. One reviewer enjoyed them after a pickup, while another found the vegetable spring rolls unpleasant and the egg fried rice overwhelmed by soy sauce. Other complaints about the cooking name a chicken chow mein that was more vegetable than noodle, chicken dishes with only a few pieces of meat, spongy tofu and dry duck. The sharpest criticism targets delivery. Two reviewers describe wrong orders, including chicken sent to a pescatarian and sweet and sour sauce in place of barbecue, and say staff became argumentative on the phone. One reviewer reports an order arriving after two hours, which mattered because a diabetic family member had already taken insulin. One regular notes occasional delays. Still, a long-time customer outside the delivery area was offered delivery as a good customer, and another reviewer was served salt and chilli chips cooked just before closing.
