Customer Review Summary

Friendly, attentive service is what reviewers mention most, with several crediting a waiter or waitress for making the evening, and one noting a waiter who suggested sites to see. Among dishes, the venison earns the strongest praise, with one diner giving it the nod over the chicken, and the sticky toffee pudding is called spot on. Two reviewers call the haggis delicious, and the salmon trio starter, the Fern Burger, the roasted salmon and the feta plate also draw approval. The pasta is the recurring complaint. One diner describes an aglio olio with cheese in it, soggy pasta, small overcooked prawns and a long wait for mains. Another found the seafood pasta lacking in flavor and too soft. One reviewer says reserving is worthwhile because the place gets busy, though a walk-in without a booking was seated. The outside verandah tables are described as nice, with blankets and heaters for a chilly evening.

“5 days in London and 10 days in Scotland, this is the worst meal I ever had. They put cheese into my aglio olio pasta, pasta is soggy, prawns is not fresh and tiny, definitely is cheap frozen prawns. They say Pitlochry is known for bad and expensive food, this legend is true! And, we waited for 45 minutes for our mains! Edit: The menu did not mentioned it's king prawns, but since you said it supposed to be king prawns, I am really surprised how small your king prawns are. And the only reason that king prawns are this small is due to overcooking it. I apologize that I admit I did not go through the ingredients in the dish on your menu. But it's understood that aglio olio not supposed to contain any cheese...unless Scotland do it differently.”

“Haggis was delicious, service was excellent. However the seafood pasta was lacking in flavor and the pasta was overcooked...too soft and didn't have any texture.”

“My wife and I just experienced the most beautoful dining experience here, together. We shared two entrées, one of the goat cheese and the other of the haggis. We had the seared duck and the venison for the mains, plus a sticky toffey pudding and an affagato for desserts. Every meal was exquisite - 10/10 , the service was flawless and the atmosphere was perfect. We genuinely could not be happier Thankyou Fern Cottage for a beautiful experience!”

“We had a very enjoyable meal here last night. The menu had plenty of variety with gluten free options. The meal was good value and delicious. Our very friendly waitress originally from Ukraine (sorry I forgot your name!) looked after us well. (Slava Ukraine!!). Definitely worth reserving as it gets busy. The outside verandah tables are nice and have blankets and heaters if it gets chilly. A really nice place to eat.”
