About House of Bruar Fish and Chip Shop
House of Bruar Fish and Chip Shop is a fish and chips takeaway in Pitlochry, set within the large House of Bruar complex alongside other food, clothing and souvenir shops. The chips are fried in beef dripping and come with a garlic-heavy gravy, so the side has its own flavour before any fish arrives. Fish comes as either cod or haddock. For a different plate, the steak pie is served with chips, mushy peas and onion gravy. Customers choose their seasoning and sauce at the end of the order, picking from salt, pepper and vinegar to finish the meal their own way.

Customer Review Summary
Haddock and chips draw the most praise, with reviewers calling the fish fresh, crispy and cooked perfectly, and one noting a light batter and generous portion. Cod gets nearly as much attention, and one reviewer who tried both recommends the haddock. Close behind are the chips fried in beef dripping, which one diner says makes the meal world class. The gravy earns repeated mentions too, with one reviewer describing it as full of garlic and unlike any they have had, while another praises a steak pie with mushy peas and onion gravy. A few mention the ice cream and scotch eggs. Staff are described as friendly and quick, and one reviewer says they added scraps and an extra pot of sauce for free. The one recurring caution is mixed counter service: a reviewer who enjoyed the scotch eggs found the woman serving coffee wildly unfriendly, and also called prices not cheap. Several note that outside seating is available at the takeaway.

“Absolutely fantastic chippy! The haddock and chips is honestly amazing — always fresh, crispy and cooked perfectly. The staff are lovely and the service is always great. We come through from Edinburgh and every single time we do, we make sure we stop here. It is the best chippy we have had! They’re so generous too, adding scraps and even an extra pot of sauce for free, which is such a lovely touch. You can tell they really care about their customers and the food they serve. Highly recommend this chippy — definitely worth the trip!”

“Very impressive! The best fish and chips I've had since I can remember. Had both haddock and cod and I'd recommend the haddock. The gravy is beautiful too.”

“Gorgeous fish and chips, lived up to the good reviews. Really nice light batter and good sized portion. Must try the gravy! Like one I’ve never had before, full of garlic - delicious!”
