About The Harrow Inn, Steep
The Harrow Inn, Steep is a pub in Petersfield on Church Rd, set in a 17th-century building with wood beams and a compact interior. Outside, an extensive cottage garden grows flowers raised for charity. The kitchen cooks home-made food, including a ploughman's in cheese and beef versions and a beef sandwich. The bar pours local ales, cask beer and cider. Payment is cash only, as the pub does not take cards. Tables are shared, and there is a wait when the pub is busy. The car park is very small and fills up, with overflow parking on the country lanes.

Customer Review Summary
The extensive country garden is what reviewers raise most, described as beautiful, with cottage flowers and a compact, cosy interior behind it. Close behind is the home-made food, with cheese and beef ploughman's, ham soup, lemon cheesecake and a beef sandwich singled out, alongside well-kept cask beer, local ales and cider. The owners and bar staff are called friendly, and a shared table policy gets a mention as a lovely touch. Parking is the recurring complaint. The car park is very small and fills quickly, so some end up on nearby country lanes, and one regular says they always arrive before noon to get a space. A few also note sharing tables and a wait when it is busy. One dissenting reviewer found flan, quiche and the beef sandwich unavailable at a Thursday lunch, was left with a cold ham sandwich, and thought a ploughman's of close to a whole loaf of bread with half a block of butter and cheese was excessive. Two reviewers describe a friendly robin visiting the garden tables for scraps.

“A gem of a country pub, unbothered by the need to change, it retains its charm and quaintness whilst serving simple delicious food and great beer, cider etc. Bring cash! Expect to share tables & wait a while when busy - it's worth it. Beautiful summer garden, cosy interior.”

“Utterly brilliant. I can't even begin to describe how wonderful this pub is. Excellently kept beer and food that is out of this world (proper home-made food that isn't processed and passed on as 'pub food'). Beautiful garden, flowers for charity. It just gets better and better. CASH ONLY! I wish I'd known.”

“The Harrow Inn has very good reviews, so we were keen to check it out when we were in the area, during a Thursday lunchtime. It’s very tucked away, so once we found it, parking was a problem. A very tiny car park, totally full, so ended up parking on the road some distance away. It’s a very old building, quirky, rambling, attractive gardens. Looking good, lets order some food. First choice, flan. Not available. Quiche then. Not available. Beef sandwich then. Not available. An already limited menu, about 50% of the items, essentially all the ‘hot’ choices not available. Ended up ordering a ham sandwich which was whole meal bread, butter, and ham plus a side salad. £9.50. My partner ordered a ploughmans - what came was ridiculous - close to a whole loaf of bread on a lettuce base, half a block of butter & cheese. Far too much, half the amount at half the price would have been appropriate. Some folk seem to equate quantity with value; quality is much more important. We ended up paying over £32 for two beers and our cold lunch. Overall, not really impressed at all. OK for a drink if you were in the area walking or cycling but other than that, I would give it a miss I’m afraid.”
