About Punjab Takeaway

Tandoor-cooked chicken tikka anchors the cooking at Punjab Takeaway, an Asian restaurant on Waterloo St in Oldham. The kitchen runs to 59 dishes, with curries such as chicken karahi and lahori channa, seekh kebab, masala fish and chicken tikka served over chips. Freshly made naan comes out warm alongside roti, and salad is served with main dishes. A tub of homemade hot sauce can be added on the side for anyone who wants extra heat with their order. Samosas are sold as a starter, including a samosa chaat. Payment is cash only, so it helps to arrive prepared. Orders are taken at the counter on a walk-in basis or over the phone, and the shop opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Chicken tikka is the dish reviewers return to most, praised as beautifully charred and tasty enough that one diner travelled from Stoke-On-Trent to try it. Close behind are the curries, with a chicken karahi described as a good portion and authentic, and a reviewer who ordered a full spread singled out the samosa chaat, seekh kebab and masala fish. The lahori channa and fluffy naan also earn mention, along with freshly made roti and homemade hot sauce. Several describe the staff as friendly and quick, call the place very clean, and say the food is home made and fairly priced. The criticism is sharper but rare. One reviewer reports that samosas were out of date and that their son vomited, and another found the chicken tikka on chips average and has had better. One phone order arrived with only one curry, though the portion was still enough for two.

“Here's an expanded version of your review: --- We ordered the following: 1 x Samosa Chaat 1 x Portion of Chicken Tikka 1 x Portion of Seekh Kebab 1 x Masala Fish 2 x Freshly made Naan 1 x Tub of Homemade Hot Sauce Where do I even start? For someone who loves proper desi style cooking, but at the same time is a fussy eater - this meal ticked every single box. The Samosa Chaat was the perfect starter - tangy, well spiced, and clearly made with care rather than just thrown together. The Chicken Tikka came out beautifully charred with that smoky flavour you only get from real tandoor cooking, while the Seekh Kebab was juicy and packed with the right blend of herbs and spices - not dry or bland like you get from so many other places. The Masala Fish deserves a special mention too - the sauce had real depth to it, and the fish itself was cooked perfectly, not overdone or falling apart. The naan arrived freshly made, soft and warm, exactly how it should be. And the homemade hot sauce on the side was the icing on the cake - proper heat with flavour behind it, not just chilli for the sake of it. Every dish had that authentic, home-cooked quality that's genuinely hard to find - fresh ingredients, the right balance of spices, and generous portions that didn't leave us wanting more. On top of that, the staff were friendly, efficient, and made the whole experience even better. If you're after fresh, authentic Desi food done properly, Punjab is the place to go. Thank you and well done to the whole team at Punjab Takeaway - we'll definitely be back! Kind Regrds Naeem”
