Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food as delicious, hearty and well presented, with the rump steak in Diane sauce and the lamb rump singled out. The atmosphere comes close behind, one diner calling it fun even with football on in other rooms, and one suggests booking because the pub is popular. Groups come up repeatedly, including a wedding reception and a party of fifteen for a 60th birthday, where staff are described as going above and beyond. Service draws the complaints. One reviewer with a walking stick says she had to carry her own drinks from the bar and found the male bartender rude. Another says a barmaid took a drink still two thirds full and no replacement was offered. One diner found the lamb bon bon tasteless mush, the shepherd's pie mince sour and the potatoes dry, and said nobody asked how the meal was.

“Food was amazing as always but I felt rushed we were being rushed out after booking a large table. Barmaid took my drink before I was finished (2/3 of a pint) and when I said I’m not finished with that her finger was already in the drink. Most places would give a you a new drink but unfortunately that was for me to pay.”

“Disappointing Experience for Two Elderly Ladies at The Halfway HouseReview:My friend and I visited The Halfway House on Rochdale Road after hearing it was recently named Pub of the Year. We were deeply disappointed by the complete lack of service and care.I use a walking stick and clearly struggle with my mobility. Despite this being obvious, we were told we had to order everything at the bar. Shockingly, the staff made us carry our own drinks back to our table completely unassisted, which was incredibly difficult and unsafe for me.The male bartender who served us was exceptionally rude and unhelpful. A pub winning such a prestigious award should pride itself on hospitality, but we were treated with zero respect or basic empathy. It was a very upsetting visit and unfortunately the will not be returning.”

“Another lovely evening at the Halfway House. Fifteen of us went for my 60th birthday. I booked it and Freya sent me a menu through WhatsApp which made it so much easier to send to others. Due to there being a large amount of us, we let them know everyone's meal through the WhatsApp message beforehand paid a £5 deposit per person. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the meals were delicious as usual. I would definitely recommend the Halfway House.”
