About Connaught Kitchen
Savoury waffles shape the menu at Connaught Kitchen, a café and restaurant on Connaught Road in Norwich, where bang bang chicken and bang bang mushroom waffles lead the list. Breakfast fills out much of the rest, with veggie and meaty plates, a fry up and eggs your way, and sandos run alongside. The coffee list stretches from espresso to an iced maple and smoked sea salt latte. Service is daytime only, Tuesday to Sunday, with Mondays closed, and booking ahead is advised. A step-free entrance helps visitors with mobility needs, high chairs make space for families with young children, and dogs are welcome. An outdoor seating area gives the choice of eating outside as well as at the tables indoors. Parking on the surrounding street is free rather than permit-only.

Customer Review Summary
Waffles dominate the praise here, with the bang bang chicken version, topped with gochujang mayonnaise and Asian-style slaw, named most often, alongside a mushroom variant and a plain one that one family says they should have ordered more of. Close behind is the coffee, singled out for an Indonesian americano with a pineapple aroma and fermented note and an iced maple and smoked sea salt latte, though the same reviewer thought the americano could stand to be more acidic. Breakfasts also draw repeat mentions: the veggie and meaty fry ups, described as huge, a sausage sando, poached eggs with guacamole on sourdough, and an apple crumble with ice cream melting into the topping. Several call the staff warm and friendly. The recurring reservation is cost, with more than one reviewer describing it as not the cheapest or a special occasion place, and one noting small drink sizes, a room too hot to sit in, and two persistent cats outside. One suggests booking ahead to avoid waiting for a table. A visiting puppy got its own treat.

“Had some interesting takes on a breakfast. Drink sizes could have been more generous. Too hot to sit in, but the outdoor seating area was good. Two persistent cats hanging around, which is fine if you like cats, if not steer clear. Car parking is on the road and you take your chances. Not the cheapest, but overall tasty and freshly prepared.”

“Absolutely delicious. Ordered the iced maple and smoked sea salt latte, as well as the chicken waffle with gochujang mayonnaise and Asian-style slaw, everything tasted so fresh and delicious. Very cute location, worth booking in advance so you don’t have to wait for the table!”

“Really lovely cafe, the staff here are exactly the right level of polite and friendly and the food is delicious. More expensive than I'd like so it's definitely only a special occasion place for me.”

“Fab little gem. Food is creative & delicious. I’ve had the veggie breakfast, bang bang mushroom waffle & the soup. All cooked perfectly, really tasty & served promptly. Staff are lovely & it’s warm & cosy Son has had the meaty breakfast (huge!) & chicken sando & said they were both great On street parking is free (not permit as I feared) Highly recommend this cafe”
