About Cactus Cafe Bar

On Magdalen St in Norwich, Cactus Cafe Bar operates as a coffee shop and breakfast spot with a walk-in counter and no reservations needed. Cactuses and art fill the room, with pieces available for purchase alongside the usual counter offerings. The lunch menu, running until 3, includes salads, salmon on toast, and chicken and chorizo toasties, and the counter also turns out handmade pastries, teas, infusions, coffees, hot chocolates and ice drinks, with vegan options included. A children's play area with toys and books gives families with young children somewhere to settle, and high chairs are available at tables. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome inside. The cafe opens Monday to Saturday for daytime hours only and stays closed on Sundays. Payment and ordering happen at the counter rather than by table service.

Customer Review Summary

Families are the most common thread, with reviewers praising the children's play area, toys and books as a place where mums and dads can meet over good quality coffee and food while the children play. One long-time regular recalls the area as a welcome break. Food draws steady praise too, led by a chicken and chorizo toastie, salmon on toast and the salads, alongside milkshakes, handmade pastries, a great choice of teas, infusions and coffees, and pumpkin spice lattes. Reviewers also single out the vegan options. Staff are described as friendly, kind and helpful, and the room as relaxed and easygoing, with cactus decoration, a shabby chic feel and art on display for sale. A few say it suits a study session, brunch or lunch. One diner who arrived just after the lunch menu had finished was still served, and quickly.

  • Elidi Herbert
“The food is all amazing, had a chicken and chorizo toastie and it was the best thing I have ever consumed. The milkshakes are insanely good. The atmosphere is amazing, very cute decoration with all the cactuses and there is art on display which is available for purchase. All the workers are very nice and helpful. We came in at around 10 past 3 and lunch menu ends at 3, they still made us food and we're very quick. One of my favourite spots in Norwich! very good for a study session or lunch/ breakfast.”

“I've visited this café for years and always love coming here. The food is really tasty, as is the coffee, and the staff are friendly. I no longer need the children's play area, but it used to be very handy for allowing me to have a break.”

  • Jammal
“Easygoing atmosphere, nothing loud or forced, just comfortable from the start. Food was fresh and nicely presented, with flavors that work without being too heavy. Drinks were solid and went well with the menu. Service felt friendly and unhurried, which fit the vibe perfectly. A good spot to sit back, eat slowly, and enjoy the time.”
