Customer Review Summary

Steak draws the most praise, with diners describing a 28 day aged ribeye as tender and a sirloin as cooked to perfection, served with beef fat chips or skin on fries. Korean pork belly comes close behind, as a kimchi belly pork starter and as an open sandwich, while tobacco onions and mac and cheese are singled out as sides. Others mention a roast with pink lamb, pints and an IPA, and a Nose to Tail dining event. Friendly staff come up repeatedly. The main complaint comes from one reviewer, who describes slow drinks, slow starters and a very long wait for mains on a busy day. They learned only from the next table that the kitchen was short staffed, watched later arrivals get their food first, and wanted more potatoes with the big roast. Two others found the room cold or quiet. Desserts earn praise too, including a shared skillet cookie with caramel ice cream and a birthday visit the staff made special.

“Attended the Nose to Tail dining experience and it was utterly unreal! The dishes were perfect and we will happily join again for the next one”

“Came here sunday night with some friends. Really friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and music, great menu with so many options and most importantly the food and presentation was spot on. Had the Sirloin steak and it was cooked to perfection. Skin on fries were nice and well cooked, with the pesto tomato salad going down a treat. Panna cotta was beautiful, as were the two woo woo's. I can see why this place does so well. Wish I lived a bit closer as somewhere like this near Buckingham would go down a treat!”

“We were planning to visit for long time, as the restaurant is really out of our way - and as we don't drive, from where we live, an extra £20 in taxi fares. We had table booked for 2pm, walked in 1.50 and we were sitted straight away without any issues. The restaurant was relatively busy, ours and 2 more free tables that filled out straight after us ( I would definitely recommend booking in for Sunday roast ) Handed menu, told what was unavailable ( which was helpful) - we waited good 10-15 min for someone to come and take our drinks order. We ordered drinks, started and food all together. We waited good 10min again for pint of beer and a cocktail. Another 20-25 Mon for the starters - which, when they arrived, were very nice - Korean BBQ pork belly and halloumi fries. And after that over 40min for our main dishes. Table next to us was told that they were short staffed in the kitchen - which IF we were actually told about, would not leave us so frustrated by long wait - what was even more annoying, people who arrived after us, were handed their food before us. Something definitely went wrong somewhere. We ordered the big roast as we wanted to try everything. The food was very good and there was plenty of good quality, nicely cooked meats. We thought, weirdly, there wasn't enough of.. potatoes...would really do with one or two more. We decided against dessert as we didn't really to wait again. Summarising - the food is good, but not exceptional. The wait was way too long without informing customers that there's some issues in the kitchen - and we are extremely understanding when properly communicated to. For us, it is too much of a trip all the way there - imo it was not worth the overall £120 (incl transport) as much as we are glad we ticked it off our list - we will stick with places closer and where we know the food is amazing. We are a big fans of the smoke pit - so we will still support the business and wishing Hops and Chops team all the best.”

“Went for an anniversary dinner on a Sunday night. There were no others in the restaurant which was a little concerning at first! However it felt like a private dining experience, the service was really friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent quality and a nice selection of options on the menu, the steak was perfect! Desserts are well worth it also. Overall a great experience and would go back.”
