About Jeyes of Earls Barton
Jeyes of Earls Barton is a coffee shop at 27 The Square in Northampton, set inside a visitor attraction that also holds gift and toy shops and a maze of exhibitions. A small museum upstairs covers the history of the company and the family behind it, so a visit can combine a meal with something to look around. The shop sells books, cards, toys and gifts. The coffee shop serves afternoon tea with gluten-free and lactose-free options, and the scones contain raisins. Cakes include vegan choices, and the kitchen caters for other dietary needs. Seating runs from indoor tables to a conservatory and a cabin, and a couple of little playhouse buildings give children a place of their own. Some tables sit near the toys, which suits families with young children. Jeyes is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea is the draw reviewers raise most, with one calling it fresh and tasty and others describing scones, a baby shower booking that staff worked around, and gluten-free and lactose-free versions made to order. Close behind is the full English breakfast, which one reviewer called possibly the best they have had, along with a chicken, bacon and leek pie and an ice cream milkshake. Reviewers also mention fresh cakes including vegan ones, gluten-free bread for sandwiches, and great coffee. Many praise the friendly staff and the plentiful seating in the conservatory, garden and cabin, with playhouses for young children. The gift and toy shop and the small upstairs museum come up as extras. The main complaint is slow service when busy: one reviewer waited an hour for a toastie while a three-year-old kept asking for her jam sandwich, and suggested telling people the wait up front. Another wished for plain scones, since the ones served had raisins.

“Wonderful place! There is a shop with lots of lovely books, cards, toys and gifts all reasonably priced. Then there is the cafe/restaurant with seating in the conservatory, garden or a cabin - there's even a couple of little playhouse buildings for little ones. Food was delicious and served with a smile! Finally, upstairs houses a small museum which details the history of the company/family but also so much more. If you are ever in the area, you have to visit this place!”

“Had an enjoyable time in the cafe recently with a friend. I only had a hot drink. Excellent customer service and plenty of room for people with prams etc. I hadn't been in the place for around 20 years! Highly recommended to everyone. 😉”

“An emergency trip to the Pharmacy lead me here. The delicious smell of the food was too irresistible, so I thought I'd treat myself to a full English. And what a treat it was. The breakfast was quite possibly the best I've had and the surrounding scenery is really quite beautiful. I will most certainly revisit anytime I'm back intown. Must remember to ask for a bigger plate, as wasting a single mouthful is just not an option!”

“Jeyes is a local gem. Historically significant in the area in my opinion and still owned by the family today. The cafe is lovely, great coffee, amazing amount of seating, and the shop and museum are lovely to nosey around.”
