About The Park Cafe

The Park Cafe sits inside a park in Northampton, serving British breakfasts, light bites and a counter of cakes, cookies and sausage rolls. Ice cream is sold from a window kiosk as well as the inside counter, so a cone can be picked up without stepping indoors. Coffee and other drinks are ordered at the counter inside, and there are no reservations, so it runs on walk-ins, with a wait when the cafe is busy. Seating is split between indoors and outdoor tables for eating in the open air. A step-free entrance keeps the cafe reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children. Dogs come too, with dog treats and water bowls put out for them. The cafe opens daily. Live music and bandstand concerts take place in the park nearby.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee is the draw reviewers mention most, one calling it lovely and another pairing good coffee with ice cream. Close behind is the food: fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas is praised, and the steak cut chips are called lovely, though one diner found the beef and vegetable pasty bland. Reviewers also like the indoor and outdoor seating, sitting outside on sunny days, and the welcome for kids and pets, with dog treats and clean dog water bowls on hand. Staff are called pleasant. The complaints are slow service and cost. One reviewer waited at two outdoor windows and the inside counter without being served, then left to buy ice cream elsewhere, while another says waits can be long when busy. A peppermint tea made with a cheap, tasteless tea bag and a cookie that led one parent to put the drink back are cited as overpriced. Live bandstand music in the park features in a couple of visits.

“Absolutely lovely park cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Sells a wide variety of light bites and drinks, including bottled of frozen water in heat waves! They have 2 toilets, however, I did not notice a disabled access toilet. You can buy duck food, squirrel food and plenty of dog treats. Dog water bowls looked clean and fresh.”

“Waited ages at the window kiosk where ice cream is normally served. Nobody came to serve. So moved to the next outdoor window, again waited ages. Nobody came to serve. Moved to the inside counter, where a girl spent an extraordinarily long time making one drink. There was also a man behind the counter but he didn't appear to be serving. Neither of them made eye contact, or said anything like " we'll be with you shortly" which is what I wouldhave expected. Decided not to bother waiting any longer and went to buy ice cream at the co-op on Wellingborough Road instead.”

“We had lunch at the park cafe, I had fish&chips, mushy peas it was delicious it was served with tartare sauce, my other half had Beef&Vegetable Pasty, he said that it tasted bland, he felt that it could have had some herbs&spices and maybe some better quality mince and vegetables, the steak cut chips were lovely&the mushy peas were tasty so a reasonable lunch.”

“Lovely park, good coffee & ice cream, haven't tried anything else! Pics from Sunday bandstand music.”

“The prices of things in the cafe are ridiculous. I went to get a drink and Pepsi max was £3.20 then went to get a cookie for my son and it was £2.10 for 1 cookie! I brought the cookie be ause I had promised I'd get him one but put the drink back. The all the cakes, cookies and sausage rolls look like they have been brought like they are and not freshly bakes as it advertises.”
