About Daft Eddy's | Bar & Restaurant
Daft Eddy's is an Irish restaurant and bar in Newtownards, at 1 Sketrick Island, where a bridge leads onto a small island. Inside, boats hang among the rafters, so the dining room has a nautical feel before the food arrives. The family-run kitchen cooks Irish food, and the menu includes scampi and chips, buttermilk chicken and fillet steak. A full bar runs alongside the restaurant. Groups that arrive without a booking are seated as walk-ins. The approach to the island follows a one-way system.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the food, with the fillet steak, the Sunday roast with tender beef, and crispy battered scampi with homemade chips named as highlights, alongside chicken wings and a pint of Guinness. Close behind are the setting and staff: the views over the water, the boats among the rafters and the friendly greeting come up repeatedly, and one visitor praised a skinny latte and a fresh tray bake. The main complaint is slow, stretched service. One diner waited a long stretch for an order, had starters and mains overlap with empty glasses on the table, and received drinks only after finishing the meal, with a single barman covering the bar and the tables. Another says staff chatted among themselves and cutlery had to be requested. Price draws criticism too. One reviewer called buttermilk chicken strips and a pesto pasta overpriced and processed, and the tempura prawns mostly batter, while the burger and sea bass were good. Another found the scampi pricey and smaller than hoped. A group of five without a booking was seated straight away, and one reviewer found the lemon meringue had run out.

“The service was excellent as always. Staff are very helpful and good at making recommendations. Food was delicious and well presented. Had to leave room for dessert and the only disappointment was they ran out of lemon meringue! The views are amazing and well worth a visit for them alone.”

“Beautifully located. Greeted by kind and respectful staff. Chicken wings and the fillet steak were cooked and tasted perfectly. I would say the steak is prob one of the best I've ever had. Topped off with a beautiful pint of Guinness!”

“Dreadful experience. Food is overpriced and not cooked or freshly prepared. Buttermilk chicken at best comes from M&S finest. Smells of processed chicken. Tempura prams mostly batter - can barely see prawn. Brusque welcome . Brought to a table and seats dragged noisily across the floor and left sit. Charging £19.95 for 5-6 buttermilk chicken strips which was from a supermarket with a spoonful of salad and chips is extortionate. Same for a plate of pesto pasta which is exactly that .Processed pasta with pesto sauce also processed and a few broccoli stems. Beef burger £20 and sea bass £25 were good but at these prices they should be! How NI diners accept this fare is beyond me. Not very busy considering 12th and sunny weather. I’d get a drink and buy a deli roll and have it in the sun instead.”

“Really poor service. Had to ask for cutlery, menu limited, no attention to customers. Prawn salad was lets say weak... prawns in a lettuce leaf with small green salad (no bigger than a dressing) and poor bread. No butter offered. Called out to staff a couple of times and sure too busy chatting amoungst themselves. Will never be back. Could be an amazing place.”
