  “Any time we usually get from The Golden Chip, it's usually lovely. However, lastnight was unfortunately not the case... It all tasted really bland lastnight, the battered sausages were as hard as a rock, the chips were pretty soggy and some tasted like they weren't properly cooked. The gravy was also really odd, it had a sour/tangy taste to it, and it just overall wasn't nice to eat. Woke up this morning not feeling well, so i hope it wasn't that... The cheeseburger was probably the nicest thing I got lastnight, but it still wasn't up to standard like we're used to. Very unfortunate. The lady was nice serving us though.”

  “I think this place should be renamed The Anemic Chip... Nothing golden or crispy about their chips. They had the same sweaty soggy look as petrol station deli chips and tasted slightly worse. Got gravy with mine but it was watery and honestly tasted of nothing. Chicken burger was slightly better but they ration mayonnaise something serious so made the burger quite dry overall. Place was covered in all these take away certificates and I don't know why because it's the worst chippy I have had in a long time, actually possibly the worst. Believe the Google reviews Vs questionable awards. Car park beside it has a pot hole you could lose a lorry and trailer in its that big. Service from the young girl in fairness was good. Needless to say won't be back”

  “Bought two Christmas chips, £9 each. Soon realised that there was no turkey or ham. Thought they might have forgotten, until I read the reviews. Never again! Also noticed that the Scores on the Doors certificate was nowhere to be seen. Checked the website 3 stars- satisfactory. Don’t usually buy from any less than 4.”

  “Went in tonight deciding to treat myself and family after a long hard day. I rarely do takeaway so this was to be a treat. I ordered a cod at £6.70. a portion of chips and two chicken skewers. The cod was not regular cod "the proper stuff" you expect to get but instead I got (cole) the cheapest alternative to cod. I worked in a fish factory for a decade and know the difference. It's a darker rubbery meat if not cooked well. It was grey and tough and wouldn't break apart as you expect from a good fillet of cod, the grizzly fatty spine made me want to instantly spit it out. The fillet itself was very small. What happened to the days of large bright flaky fillets of fish. Seems to be typical now days. (Hence the reason I rarely eat out) Awful slimy batter that fell apart (not crispy). I couldn't eat it' neither could my mother. Money wasted. Also bought battered chicken skewers. Tough dry chicken again with soggy batter. Lastly the portion of chips were pathetic. They tasted fine but again very mushy. FYI I only transported the food 60 seconds down the street to my house. I appreciate the price of everything is going up and it's getting harder to maintain standards and quality but don't advertise cod and give the cheap alternative. The glorious Golden Chip was a major disappointment. Ridiculous price for poor quality food. (See images) Going off some of the most recent reviews it seems things are going down hill. Either step it up or give it up.”

  “Food - pastie was a bit warm and not hot, was tasty enough but I did add more salt. Fish was a bit tight on actual fish and more batter, wasn't great. Chips were soggy and not great, not much in the portion either. Staff were friendly enough but no banter or music etc and it's christmas! Wouldn't hurry back if I'm honest”

  “This place used to be good in fact it was great When I visit here the standards have gone down The chips where disgusting and the fish was horrible Also not pleasing to the eye no presentation McDonald’s on the other hand is only round the corner always give 100% But I do prefer fish and chips on Friday Have traveled all over Uk eating this on Fridays But when I get pawned of with this I know not to come again Fryers delight on theobalds road the best in Uk”
