Quick info
About Umai Mi Bento Box
Umai Mi Bento Box is a fast food restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne, found at Unit 1 Dukes Walk in Quorum Business Park on Benton Lane. The bento box is the main draw, built from noodles, rice, crispy shredded beef, dumplings and BBQ sauce. Sushi rolls and poke bowls sit alongside it on the menu, and Chinese dishes such as vegetable chow mein and spare ribs round out the choice. The kitchen opens Monday to Friday for daytime service only and closes on Saturdays and Sundays, so it works as a weekday lunch stop for the business park. Salt and Pepper Chicken Fries are also on the menu.

What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention bento box, crispy shredded beef, dumplings and sushi rolls.
Customer Review Summary
The complaints are substantial and specific. One reviewer found the crispy beef wet through, the chips floppy like mash and the vegetable chow mein dry, while another called the Chinese food horrible on a takeaway order. A third describes food overcooked, unseasoned and very cold. One lunchtime visitor reports rude staff and a cold restaurant, and another says the beef was chewy. One reviewer states the "halal" items are cooked in the same oil as pork. Arriving late in lunch service meant waiting for dumplings and rice to be cooked, and that reviewer enjoyed the bento box anyway and said they would come back for lunch, just earlier.

“First visit here at lunchtime and thought I'd give it a try. Very rude and unhelpful staff. Cold restaurant and food not that nice. Very disappointed. I'll return to @Eat for my usual lunch as they have really friendly staff.”

“We went towards the end of the lunch service so there wasn't a huge amount ready/available, so we had to wait for small items (dumplings) and rice to be cooked. However, I really enjoyed the bento box (noodles, rice, crispy shredded beef, dumplings and BBQ sauce). I would definitely go again for lunch, I would just arrive a bit sooner than I did!”

“Chinese food was horrible, worst ever tasted, we did get a takeaway on a random Thursday but I would hope the quality is consistent. But the sushi rolls are really good and I’d imagine the poke bowls would be too”
