Quick info
About Spice Master
Spice Master is a fast food restaurant at 6 West Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne, built around masala spicy fried fish served on chips with red and white sauces. The fish comes packed separately from the chips with salad and a choice of sauce, or as fish on chips with the sauce mix spread over it. Garlic sauce is also on the menu. Beyond the fish, the kitchen makes pizza, doner and curries, including curried veg with rice or chips. The owners, who are brothers, serve customers over the counter, and a bar gives diners somewhere to sit and eat. Payment is accepted by cash or card.

Customer Review Summary
Masala fish is what reviewers raise most, calling it tasty, delicious and superbly flavoured. Some order it as fish laid over chips with the sauce mix spread across the top. The red and white sauces get specific praise, and one diner calls the garlic sauce unreal. Chips come close behind, with one reviewer loving the chippy shop style, and the doner and pizza also earn mentions. Staff and owners are repeatedly called friendly, with one visitor from Birmingham describing a warm welcome. Reviewers also note clean counters, fair pricing and well packed takeout. The recurring caveat is the chips. One reviewer says they are sometimes undercooked and not as they should taste, and another says hot, well-cooked chips need to be served consistently. One reviewer, who tried the place on a friend's recommendation, ended up ordering the masala fish every day for a week afterwards.

“Points to note about this outlet: *Friendly and professional staff. Wearing uniform. Heads covered. *Place and counters clean. *They accept cash AND card payment. (Shops that are operating in the area as 'cash only' need to understand its 2025, not 1975). *Tasty Pizzas. *Tasty Masala Fish. Possibly better than the one next door. Sauces also possibly nicer than the one next door. Chips definetly better than one ones next door. However, got to ensure that hot well-cooked chips are served consistently. *Pricing seems fair (this is important as they operate in a price-sensitive customer area) . Good place for food. "In the food business, nothing goes missed by customers"”

“The restaurant looks nice from the outside. Shiny, gleaming, good quality signage, attractive and bright. They sell pizza, fish, curries, curried veg with rice or chips, salad and sauce for around £4.50. Some basic pizzas are around at least £9 for 12 inch. They have a bar you can sit at and eat. Reasonably busy at lunchtime and during late afternoons.”
