About Lanna Thai Restaurant
Lanna Thai Restaurant is a Thai restaurant on Bridge St in Musselburgh, cooking Thai dishes for nearly 40 years and now adding a café-style breakfast menu for morning visits. Lunch brings a three course menu, and the full dinner menu includes pineapple curry, pad Thai with a vegetarian version, and a vegetarian starter platter. Many of the curries and the tom yum soup contain shrimp paste, and the kitchen keeps it in those dishes. The restaurant is small, and it is not BYOB. Dogs are welcome, so guests can bring a pet along.

Customer Review Summary
The sharper complaints concern authenticity and flexibility. One Thai diner found the papaya salad not real Thai, and another said only the red curry was good while the other dishes were not Thai style. A vegetarian says shrimp paste in most curries and the tom yum ruled out about 75% of the menu, and the chef refused to remove it. Another reviewer's starters went to the wrong table and had to be cooked again, and the chicken fried rice was called not good.

“The Red Curry was good. The other dishes was not Thai style, but I saw other guests ordering non Thai meals that might be good.”

“Had a delicious three course meal from the lunch menu for a very reasonable price! Service was swift and friendly too, definitely recommend this place”

“Totally disappointing, starters were sent to the wrong table so had to wait for new ones to be cooked, to be fair the starters were the highlight in the end. Mains were underwhelming in terms of flavour and tenderness. Having recently been in Thailand it resembles nothing that I ate there. Tired and dated decor. I have eaten there before and was average but I think it has gone downhill since. Sad.”

“The food was very good, the serving staff were very attentive. The atmosphere lacked a bit as it was fairly empty and quiet, but it's a small establishment and I think even a little bit of ambient music would go a lot way in lifting the general ambience. I'd definitely recommend it as a solid choice for Thai food in East Lothian.”

“I was excited to try the lanna thai for a while so we booked for my birthday. I was disappointed by the atmosphere, the decor is nice and welcoming but it was deathly silent, no music or ambience so I think that was lacking, also us being the only table in too felt it more. In regards to being a vegetarian, I was very disappointed that most of the curry dishes and Tom yum soup and others contains shrimp paste. I asked if it could be removed and the waiter said it would effect the taste but would ask the chef, chef said no. This eliminated about 75% of the menu for me, which I was gutted at as I wanted to try an authentic red thai curry. I had the vegetarian starter platter which was delicious and filling, the veg pad thai which was also tasty, the coconut rice is out of this world! Was just disappointed with not being able to adapt the menu for vegetarian, vegan or anyone with a shellfish allergy. I probably wouldn't go back unless that was addressed. Service was fantastic and reasonable price for everything we had! Also not BYOB as we thought just an FYI.”
