About Ting Thai Lothian Road
Ting Thai Lothian Road is a Thai restaurant at 55-57 Lothian Rd in Edinburgh, where the Pad Thai is served in a cardboard box even when guests dine in. The menu is built around dishes for one person rather than plates to share. Nam tok nua with beef sits alongside a massaman curry of belly pork in massaman sauce with potatoes and peanuts. Window seats give diners a spot for people watching.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the pad Thai and the massaman dishes, with reviewers describing red and massaman curry as flavorful and one enjoying belly pork in massaman sauce with potatoes and peanuts. Close behind are the yam moo yang, prawns, chicken wings, sweetcorn fritters and the Thai iced tea, plus window seats for people watching. Several call the staff friendly and the food quick to arrive, and one says a group booking, ordering and paying all went smoothly. Sweetness is the recurring complaint: two reviewers found pad Thai, pad krapow and kway tiew nam tok overly sugary, and one said the mun tod was an oily mess with batter that did not suit the sweet potato, leaving yam pak gaad dong as the only dish they liked. Service drew sharper criticism from one party who waited more than 40 minutes, were told the kitchen was slammed, and left without eating before a flight, with no apology. Another found the staff unsmiling. One reviewer notes water jugs already on the tables.

“A staple for me! I always leave feeling full and accomodated for. I tend to nip in before a film or show- nam tok nua can be great on its own if you fancy something light. Try to make the pre-5pm sun-up menu for a better deal on the bigger dishes- for me usually the yam moo yang which has never let me down. So welcoming and relaxed, even during busier hours and August. The fab wait team and window seats, when available, are always a bonus. Water generally already in jugs at tables, refills at the dispenser just in front of counter or ask! Two accessible toilets past the right hand side of the counter. Walk in through the door furthest up the hill - they have a separate one for deliveries!”

“This is some Dammmmn good thai food. One of the best. We ordered pad thai, the red and massasam curry was flavorful and delicious. I did not like the ting thai soup. But i still highly recommend this place. Cool atmosphere. Staff was attentive and friendly. So happy we stopped by.”

“Utterly disappointing from start to finish. We waited more than 40 minutes for our food, only to be told, after we asked where it was, that it would be another 10 minutes because the kitchen was ‘slammed’. Meanwhile, everyone else around us had been served, despite them also having much larger orders, and being seated after, making it obvious that our order had been forgotten. Instead of acknowledging the error or showing any genuine remorse, the staff seemed completely indifferent. We had a flight to catch and couldn't wait any longer, yet there was no apology, no attempt to make things right, and seemingly no concern whatsoever that we had to leave without eating. We love the other location and go frequently, but unfortunately I have no interest in coming back to either location after this experience.”

“The Pad Thai comes in an unappetizing cardboard box even though we were dining in. It was way too way sweet like most things in this restaurant. The chef needs to tone it down with all the sugar; it’s overpowering. It also had some mysterious black substance that stained my hands. The Mun Tod wasn’t edible. The crispy batter doesn’t do anything to complement the sweet potato. Just makes it taste like an oily mess. The Yam Pak Gaad Dong was the only decent dish and probably the only thing on the menu not swimming in sugar. My wife and I were very hungry so it should have been easy to satisfy us. On a positive note, the waitress was nice and friendly.”
