Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the most frequent draw, with reviewers praising tender beef, flavourful lamb, generous seasonal veg and Yorkshire puddings one parent says are bigger than their child's head. Close behind is the welcome for children, with colouring handed out and parents calling the staff fantastic with under threes. Diners also single out venison, a sea trout starter, beef shin that falls apart, a crab starter and sticky toffee pudding. Complaints are fewer but specific. One diner found service inconsistent, saying the maître d' focused on regulars, drinks arrived bit by bit and a second bottle of wine was slow. The same reviewer was told butter came with the cheese board and it did not. Another diner found the mushroom and beetroot wellington fussy, and a vegan breakfast reviewer called the sliced beetroot "bacon" a letdown. One party arriving early at short notice was fitted in and offered a drink in the stables bar.

“Good quality food, ordered 3 game pie, 2 salmon and 1 chicken, all agreed the food was off excellent quality. For dessert it was the pear and rhubarb francipan, sticky toffee pudding and the cheese board, I was told butter was included but it wasn't, on reflection the sticky toffee looked a better option. Limited selection on zero alcohol options which is understandable with it being a restaurant and not a bar, but a shame as needed to use at the moment. Service was inconsistent, I do not believe this was a resourcing issue more a management of resources. The main matre de was focused on regulars, we attempted to attract attention a number of times without success. The drinks came bit by bit rather than all at once and when we ordered another wine bottle it took time to receive it.”

“Enjoyed a superb evening meal at the courtyard. Starters and mains. Atmosphere was very pleasant, a mixed group of diners just using the downstairs space. The restaurant is beautifully fitted out and decorated. I had an incredible sea trout starter, which was 11/10. Outstanding balance and flavour. Mains were also 10/10. Venison was beautiful, and a chicken in creamy mustard sauce for the wife. I really do think this is the best restaurant I’ve found in the north east. The chef has the ability to mix incredible flavours and blend them on the plate to deliver truly outstanding food. This is something that many others show on their menu, but disappoints once on the plate. The service was very good all round. Will definitely return very soon. In terms of value, for the quality provided it was more than reasonable. A real gem”

“Absolutely stunning place. They fit us in last minute, we arrived early so they asked if we could wait in the stables bar to have a drink, also lovely. The food was absolutely out of this world. I had Venison, my partner had beef and my son chicken burger. They both said it was very lovely. Highly recommend this place. You won’t be disappointed”

“We visited for a Sunday lunch, my wife choosing the beef, myself the lamb. Both beautifuly cooked, the beef tender soft, the lamb full of flavour and delicious. Both meals came with a generous serving of seasonal veg, more variety that I've had from other places. My wife for pudding had the Stickey toffee pudding which she said was amazing. The place itself is very pleasant and open with a nice vibe. Overall I was very impressed and will return with the family.”

“Another great Sunday dinner. Can never fault the court yard. Food is always perfect and service is top quality. We have two children under 3 and we have always found that the staff are always so fantastic with them both. We don’t really enjoy going out for meals with them as it can be very chaotic and every time we have gone to the court yard the staff have always been so fantastic! Ella is a big fan of Yorkshire puddings bigger then her head to! Our favourite place for Sunday dinner”
