About W2 World Buffet

In Middlesbrough, W2 World Buffet serves an all-you-can-eat spread from 2 Captain Cook Square, covering sushi, dim sum, Indian curries, Italian pastas and a grill section. The Chinese section adds salt and pepper chicken and duck alongside pilau rice. Desserts include cakes, pastries and fruit, with a chocolate fountain at the end of the line. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the sheer variety, from freshly prepared sushi and Chinese stir-fry to Indian curries, Italian pastas, a grill section and a wide dessert spread with cakes, pastries and a chocolate fountain. Close behind, several describe friendly staff who top up empty trays quickly, and one notes the weekday lunch price with drinks charged extra. Birthday groups mention enjoying the food and atmosphere. The criticism is sharper in a few accounts. One reviewer describes staff refusing to seat a party of seven together at empty larger tables, calling the response rude and blunt. Another found the food greasy, the prawns stale, and the salt and pepper chicken chewy enough to stop eating, though the duck and Thai beef drew some praise. One diner reports food poisoning after seeing pink chicken on a busy Sunday night, and says an email asking for a refund went unanswered. A reviewer who has visited many times and was usually happy left the table early rather than order extra drinks.

“We where in Middlesborugh the day before my birthtday so we though we would go in for a meal see whatbits like, I regretted the food as inhad a few portions of the thai beef and pilau rice, some duck which was the only good dishes however I tried a piece of the salt pepper chicken it wad so chewie and the texture wasnt quite right, it made me gag to the point I couldnt eat any more despite still being hungry. I would advise to avoid?”

“We attended yesterday for my partner's birthday. The food was lovely, well cooked and a nice variety. The staff however were unfortunately extremely unaccomadating to our circumstances. 3 of our group (of 7) arrived later. We asked for a table for all of us and were told unfortunately, we all had to arrive together to sit together. We did wait a while but due to childcare restrictions, we decided to go ahead and go in in the hopes they could sit them on a table next to us. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered that only about half the tables in the one section open were taken and there were several empty 8 seater tables amongst these. They sat us at a 4 table and when we asked if we could sit at the 8 as our friends were on their way, we were told no but they'd see what they could do when they arrived. We saw another come up and decided to move and let staff know. Before we even had a chance to approach a staff member, one came over angry and quite frankly, rude. Telling us we were not allowed to swap tables and we had said we didn't mind sitting apart. We didn't if needs be, but with that many free tables it didn't make any sense! When our final 3 of the party arrived, they were sat on a table behind us and we approached a staff member and said now we were all here, could we move to a bigger table (I counted 6 empty big tables and nobody was queued to come in). The answer was a blunt no. It felt extremely petty to stubbornly say no to make a point. Those larger tables were not used for the whole duration we were there and were in the area being waited on. Rather than just allow us to sit together to celebrate my partner's birthday, they stuck with their rigid rules. We were pleased that several other diners actually approached us to show support and say how ridiculous it all seemed. In the end we left and rather than get some extra drinks, we opted to leave and sit in a nearby spot so we could actually chat and socialise. We have visited this buffet many times and always been happy with it. Unfortunately I'm unsure whether we'll return as the staff were just so unpleasant.”

“Really nice place. All food was cooked to perfection and really enjoyable. Staff were fantastic even though it was busy and they were having to deal with some customers who were lacking decency or common etiquette. Would highly recommend this place. Some of the best tasting food Ive ever had in the UK. Awesome.”

“Well presented buffet restaurant with so many choices. The food is fresh and staff top up the empty trays fast so you won't miss on anything. The place was busy when we arrived, but we didn't wait long for a table as the siting is quite big. Staff are very polite and friendly. Would recommend to anyone”

“Had my birthday party at W2 World Buffet and really enjoyed it. There was a great selection of food and everything we tried was tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was nice for celebrating with family and friends. Everyone had plenty of choices to eat, so it worked well for a big group. We all had a lovely time and made some great memories. Thank you to the team for helping make my birthday special. Would definitely come back again!”
