Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the curries, naming an outstanding biryani, a superb veg curry, and a lamb Bhuna with vegetable sides. Tender, well-cooked meat and generous portions come up repeatedly, and one reviewer liked that the sauce was not swamped in gravy. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff and being seated quickly, and one praised a delivery order that arrived as hoped. Service speed is the recurring complaint. One party with a booked table for seven reports a very long wait for a poppadom and longer for a starter, even after writing out their order, and still being charged full price. Another says the food took very long to arrive with no other customers in the restaurant, which was cold, and found the cashier unfriendly. A third reviewer found the poppadoms rancid from old cooking oil and the chutneys bland. That same reviewer enjoyed a Chicken Tikka Pathia with the spice level right, but counted only five small chunks of chicken in it.

“Stopped by here for a mid week curry, it’s a big old place to be fair. Nice and quick drink order (it wasn’t overly busy being midweek) ordered some poppadoms and a chutney tray - this was a disappointment. The poppadoms were rancid, the oils in which these had been cooked in had obviously not been changed for quite some time - very disappointing. Equally as disappointing was the chutneys, bland with very little flavour. For my main I had a Chicken Tikka Pathia, it was tasty and I enjoyed it, the spice level just right, the only negative was the amount of chicken - it was measly. I don’t expect 3 chicken breasts worth, but literally 5 small chunks is pretty poor. Naan and rice were fine. A few little tweaks and I think there’s easy scope for improvements.”

“Outstanding biryani - real depth of flavour and good amount of meat, with a superb veg curry. Naan, poppadoms & chutneys all good too. Staff were incredibly friendly and full of conversation (although it was a quiet Saturday evening). All in all, if you’re after a curry in Merthyr I’d say this is the place.”

“Really welcoming staff, quick service. Food was great, usually not a fan when there’s too much curry gravy but these guys got the balance just right. I’ll be back when I’m next passing through!”

“Today i had a delivery from red spice and it was wonderful. Me and my wife was starving and i was hesitant of having curry from outside, but eventually wanted to give redspice and it was perfect and phenomenal. I will come back here thousand times and definitely recommended.”
