About Casa Bianca

Casa Bianca is a family-run southern Italian restaurant at 119 High St in Merthyr Tydfil, open daily. The kitchen works across pasta, pizza and calzone, with heartier mains alongside. Pollo con gorgonzola wraps chicken in Italian ham and finishes it with a creamy gorgonzola sauce, served with roast potatoes. Lamb shank comes with roast potatoes and gravy, and seafood risotto covers the lighter, fish-led side of the menu. The dining room is decorated for the seasons, with Christmas and Valentine's displays. A bar runs alongside the kitchen and makes cocktails, including an amaretto sour.

Customer Review Summary

Pizza comes up most, from a Hawaiian pizza at a family lunch to a son's pizza beside a fungi dish, with the lamb shank, served with roast potatoes and gravy, close behind. Reviewers also name the seafood risotto, calzone, calamari starters, a seafood platter and the pollo con gorgonzola. Most describe the staff as friendly and attentive and the decor as lovely. One parent of a celiac daughter found plenty of options and staff who knew them, and a cocktail challenge produced a perfect amaretto sour. The criticism is specific. One diner found the bruschetta tasteless and the kids' linguine went uneaten. Another found the pasta mains a little cool and the cost high. Others mention slower service once bigger tables arrived, one person handling a party of 16, and loud drilling next door. In the harshest account, a vegetarian's calzone arrived as a pizza with ham.

“Had a fantastic meal at Casa Bianca. The food was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully prepared. We tried the pizza, pasta, risotto, and a selection of starters, and everything was excellent. The service was very welcoming, attentive, and polite throughout the evening, making us feel truly looked after. A great restaurant with delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended!”

“Absolutely beautiful food. I had the pollo con gorgonzola — chicken wrapped in Italian ham with a creamy gorgonzola sauce, served with roast potatoes — and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had. The flavours were incredible, and the portion size was perfect. Everything was absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to come back again. The staff were very friendly and welcoming too. Compliments to the chef — amazing food here!”

“Booked this place for my 40th and we were not disappointed. My daughter is celiac and it's always a nightmare for her to eat out. This place had so much variety for her and the staff were very on top of what was available to her. The food was delicious, every single course. Plus, the cocktail we challenged the bar staff to make was a perfect amaretto sour. Decor, food, drinks everything was brilliant.”

“We visited on a Monday evening, and while the restaurant is beautifully decorated and had a nice, quiet atmosphere, the food really let us down. We started with the garlic bread which ok bruschetta was tasteless and gamberoni, but things went downhill from there. The kids' linguine was a complete miss—my daughter didn't like it at all and left the whole plate. The biggest issue, however, was the service error. My wife is a vegetarian and ordered the veg calzone, but was served a pizza with ham instead. It's a pretty poor oversight for a professional kitchen. Overall, the food was mediocre at best and the order mix-up made for a frustrating night. Given the quality and the mistake with the dietary requirements, doubt to be returning.”

“Had a lovely birthday meal here. Food was really tasty and well presented. Although we would have liked vegetables like green beans or broccoli with the lamb, not the roasted vegetables. The staff were attentive and friendly.”
