About Hop Vietnamese Market Street

Hop Vietnamese Market Street is a Vietnamese restaurant in Manchester city centre, at 26 Market St, where guests order at a kiosk machine and choose their own dishes without a table order. Food comes out in takeout boxes even when dining in, with seating on the ground floor and in the basement. The menu covers rice boxes, banh mi and pho. The lemongrass chicken Hop Box comes with jasmine rice and Vietnamese salad, and the banh mi baguettes include a pulled mushroom version. Every dish is made to order.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the lemongrass chicken, whether as a Hop Box or with jasmine rice and Vietnamese salad, describing it as tender and fragrant. Close behind are the banh mi, with one praising the pulled mushroom version and another the crispy bread and fresh salad, plus the dumplings and the lemonade. Diners also mention friendly staff, quick service from the kiosk, and vegan options. The main complaint is the pho. Reviewers call the broth weak, not rich, or not authentic, and one objects to it arriving in a takeout cup when eating in. Others find the food ordinary overall, say portions can be small, and note dry chicken, firm rice, or no option to order plain rice on its own. A few say the honey pork and ribs were better choices. One reviewer describes a staff member who found a ring left in the bathroom and returned it.

“Looks good as a restaurant and served fast but the food itself is lacking. They serve everything in takeout boxes even if you eat in. Never in my life have I eaten pho out of a large coffee cup? Also this seems very wasteful but I get they probably save on costs by not having to wash dishes, however the noodles are still £12. The toppings were good and authentic but the broth was a little weak, you can taste the cinnamon and star anise etc but it isn't that full bodied, I wonder if they use the veggie broth for everything. They also offer you a gnats portion of chilli oil. 6/10 on the food, but it's clean and nice inside.”

“Their lemongrass chicken Hop Box is so good. The staff is lovely, and there's a great choice on the menu. Everything I've tried has been really tasty. There's plenty of seating across the ground floor and basement, plus a jukebox where you can pick the music. The whole place has a really chilled vibe. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. They are wheelchair accessible.”

“A 10/10 awesome and convenient option when you’re shopping on Market Street so quickly need something filling (that tastes better than the norm of Greggs or McDonalds). The Bahn Mi, Pho and Spring Rolls are very authentic. The Bahn Mi combination of meat, pate and whatever the incredible butter creates a superb flavour with perfect crispy bread and fresh fragrant salad. The lemonade is also the perfect accompaniment. It’s usually quiet and easy enough to get a seat with more available downstairs.”

“Visited this place for the first time while in Manchester and really enjoyed it. The meal deal was good value with a main, drink and dessert all included and everything was fresh and full of flavour. I had the lemongrass chicken with jasmine rice and Vietnamese salad. The chicken was tender, juicy and packed with fragrant lemongrass flavour while the salad was crisp, tangy and easily my favourite part of the meal. The rice was a little firmer than I would have liked but it didn’t take away from the overall meal. The lemonade was refreshing and the soft serve dessert topped with freeze dried raspberry, chocolate and Oreo crumb was a great way to finish. The staff were friendly and welcoming which made the experience even better. Overall it was a really enjoyable meal with great flavours and I’d happily return next time I’m in Manchester. Just a slightly softer rice and it would have been perfect!”

“Ok food. The pho was slight below average as thr soup base is not authentic nor rich. The honey pork is not bad though. Good for a quick lunch if you work around there and could not think of specific restaurant.”
