About Pho Manchester

Pho Manchester is a Vietnamese restaurant in Manchester, at 37 Hanging Ditch in The Corn Exchange. It holds Coeliac UK accreditation, and nearly all of the dishes are gluten-free, which gives guests avoiding gluten a wide choice. Over a third of the menu is vegan, so vegan diners can order across the range too. Noodle soup is the focus, with beef brisket pho and Pho Ga, the chicken version, among the broths. Curries, rice dishes, wok-fried noodles and salads fill out the mains, and fried baby squid sits among the starters. Spring rolls are the one item that is not gluten-free. The drinks list covers juices, wine, beer and cocktails.

Customer Review Summary

Beef pho is the dish reviewers return to most, with the beef brisket soup and a chicken pho both singled out, and the fried noodles and chicken and shrimp fried rice close behind. Fried baby squid is praised as crispy and well seasoned, and the curry noodle soup, likened to laksa, is called flavourful. A dragon fruit lemonade and Pride punch cocktails also get mentions. Several reviewers describe friendly, helpful servers, one coeliac diner valued being asked about allergies on arrival and told only the spring rolls contained gluten, and another noted the pho is gluten free. The main criticism is service pace: a couple say it can be slow when the restaurant is busy, with one waiting a while to get a waiter for the bill even though the food came quickly. One reviewer found the pho broths thin and salty, tasting like MSG, and disliked the peanut sauce served with the fried spring rolls. Another rated the food consistently good but short of a standout, authentic level. A diner with coeliac disease closed on a waffle dessert served with ice cream.

“Eating out as someone with coeliac disease can be quite stressful. Having seen reviews re a 98% gluten free menu we had to try it. Vegan options also available. I was asked re allergies on arrival, and to just be told only the spring rolls aren't gluten free gave me so much choice. Lovely atmosphere really friendly staff. The prawn crackers were non greasy and good sharing portion. My starter pork and lemongrass meatballs was a good size really tasty, thanks to a tip from our waitress to roll in the lettuce leaf and pop a bit of mint in. They even double checked I wasn't sharing my friends spring rolls which she enjoyed. For my first noodles since diagnosis I want disappointed. Fried noodles with chicken really good quality and portion size. Even got a tip how to cook gluten free noodles at home. My friends broth with noodles, beef, chicken and prawns was lovely as well. I tried the broth and it was full of flavour. Very rarely have desert as it's usually a brownie or meringue. Not here, waffles or banana split. I chose the waffle lovely and light served with a good portion of ice cream. The price for our 2 starters, mains and one desert and a bottle of wine was very good even before the blue light discount. Not rushed on a Friday evening. Was one of the busiest restaurants that evening. Just to be able to relax without having to pick through a menu to see what I can have and ask loads of questions re the kitchen set up for gluten free cooking was lovely. Highly recommend, great food, lovely staff and relaxing atmosphere . Photos are part way through eating as was eager to try the dishes.”

“Excellent food, the best Vietnamese place I've been to. I've come here on multiple occasions with friends and family and it consistently impresses. Very friendly and helpful staff, though service can be a tad slow due to low numbers of staff. The corn exchange is a great spot for the restaurant and the vibe is calm and welcoming, perfect for chatting over dinner. Would highly recommend. Thanks, very much to our waitress Parice who made sure we felt welcome.”

“Pho Manchester is a healthy Vietnamese restaurant with loads of vegan and gluten free options. We specialise in pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup, and also serve delicious curries, rice dishes, wok-fried noodles and healthy salads, too. We also have loads of starters that are perfect for sharing with friends and family. Over a third of our menu is vegan, and nearly all of it is gluten-free, so we are a great destination for people who follow those particular diets. We are accredited by Coeliac UK. Aside from our lovely food we offer a brilliant range of healthy juices, as well as delicious wine and beer, and a fantastic cocktail menu too.
