About Red Marrakech

Red Marrakech is a family-run Moroccan restaurant on Ayres Rd in Manchester, with an open kitchen where the cooking happens in view. Pasta is handmade and rolled to order, including stuffed pasta, and the breads are baked in-house, so the food is cooked fresh rather than held ready. The lamb tagine comes with lamb on the bone, and sides such as lobia, a dish of white beans, are served with home bread. The venue is small with limited seating, and payment is cash only because there is no card machine. Pre-orders can be sent to the restaurant by message. It serves evenings only, open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays.

“One of the hidden gems of the world, Red Marrakech. Simply underrated is not even the word, fresh cooked Moroccan food, halal, small cosy and friendly vibes. It is with every penny. Remember to call them up before your visit and book your table and place your order and carry cash as they do not have a machine.”

“Delicious food, freshly made in front of you in a clean kitchen. Family run and you’re lucky to know this place exists. This is not a fine dining experience, just delicious food cooked expertly. We ordered ahead of arrival because the food is cooked fresh, we didn’t want to wait. Lamb tagine, chicken shawarma (spicy), calamari and a must have pot of tea to finish. Looking forward to coming back.”

“I had an amazing experience at this Moroccan restaurant in the UK. The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic flavors, and clearly made with care. The tagines were rich, perfectly seasoned, and comforting … exactly how Moroccan cuisine should taste. Every bite was warm, flavorful, and satisfying. The presentation was beautiful, and the portions were generous. A true taste of Morocco that I would happily come back for. Highly recommended! ❤️”

Customer Review Summary

Tagines draw the most attention, especially the lamb tagine, cooked on the bone and described as succulent, with chicken tagines and meatballs also ordered. Close behind are the chicken shawarma, called spicy and not the regular kind, and the freshly made burgers, with the lamb burger a favourite. Reviewers also praise the hand-rolled bread, the garlic and tomato bread, and homemade pasta rolled to order in an open kitchen where diners watch the cooking. The family running it is described as lovely and hospitable, and portions are generous. The main complaint is the long wait for food, particularly the lamb tagine, since everything is made from scratch, so several reviewers order ahead or book before arriving. The venue is small, rough around the edges, and gets busy quickly, with limited seating. One reviewer found the garlic bread lacked garlic flavour. One group of three ordered more than they could finish and packed up the sides to take home.
