About Lahori Dera
Lahori Dera is a Pakistani restaurant at 649 Stockport Rd in Manchester, open daily. The menu centres on karahi, with chicken and lamb versions brought out and put down on the table. A tawa for 2 sits alongside it for those dining as a pair. Tandoori fish is a dish diners order again and again, and the grill side of the kitchen also covers kebabs and tikka. Breads come with the meal, including tandoori naan and thinner roti. Seating is limited, so the dining room stays compact.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often discuss the karahi, and opinions split sharply. Fans describe succulent chicken and lamb karahi set down on the table in the pan, alongside lovely kebabs, tasty chops, fresh tandoori naan, rich nihari, creamy chicken masala and good tandoori fish. One calls it the most authentic Pakistani food in Manchester, and another liked the thin roti with a tawa for two. Others report the opposite: a lamb karahi that tasted like liver, chargas lacking flavour, an extremely dry mixed grill, and a chicken karahi with a strange smell that staff dismissed as the taste of butter. One reviewer reports that seekh kebabs described as made fresh had been left at room temperature since morning, and also describes undercooked chicken tikka and dirty skewers. Another warns of food poisoning. Service draws repeated complaints, including food arriving after later tables, disposable cutlery, and tea that only appeared once one party threatened to leave.

“Extremely disappointing experience with Lahori Dera — serious food hygiene concerns. When I placed my order, I specifically asked the person on the phone: “Do you make the seekh kebab fresh in the oven/tandoor?” He clearly told me yes. However, when I went to collect my order, I was given seekh kebabs that had already been prepared. I was then told, “We make them fresh in the morning.” What shocked me even more was that I was told these ready-made seekh kebabs had been sitting outside on a shelf at room temperature from the morning until around 9:00 pm, rather than being kept under proper refrigerated/cold-storage conditions. I am extremely concerned about this. How can cooked meat be left at room temperature for so many hours and then served to customers? What temperature was it kept at, and what food-safety procedures were followed? This is a serious food hygiene concern, particularly with meat. The seekh kebab I received was also nothing special — it looked and tasted like something that could be bought ready-made anywhere. This was completely different from what I was told when ordering. The chicken tikka was also not cooked properly, which is particularly concerning when serving chicken. Even more worrying were the skewers. As you can see clearly in the photos, they were extremely dirty, with a large amount of burnt-on residue and old food/grease stuck to them. It looked as though they had not been properly cleaned for a very long time. If this residue comes into contact with the chicken, it raises serious concerns about cross-contamination and hygiene. The photos speak for themselves. I am not making this complaint simply because I didn't like the food — I am raising a genuine food hygiene and food safety concern. Lahori Dera needs to seriously review its food preparation, storage temperatures, cooking procedures, cleaning of equipment and skewers, and overall hygiene standards. Customers should be able to trust that the food they are served is fresh, properly cooked, safely stored and prepared using clean equipment. I would strongly encourage management to investigate this properly and provide an explanation”

“I ordered. Chicken karahi it had a strange smell i called to tell them but the guy keep arguing no no its fresh u might have never eat butter so you thinks that is smell. Karahi’s taste is one thing but service is pathetic as well. Would never order again”

“Really disappointed with both the food and the service. We had called ahead to confirm everything would be freshly prepared, especially as we had invited family and friends to join us, so expectations were understandably high. Unfortunately, apart from the fish, none of the dishes tasted fresh. We ordered a chicken karahi, lamb karahi, mixed grill, two fish, and two chargas. The lamb karahi in particular was very off-putting—it tasted more like a liver dish than what we expected. The chargas lacked flavour entirely, and the mixed grill was extremely dry. We had travelled all the way from Dundee after seeing their TikTok content, so it was especially frustrating to have such a poor experience, particularly in front of our guests. For a table of 6 adults and 9 children, the bill came to £220, which felt completely unjustified for the quality of food and service we received. I don’t mind paying for good food, but this was honestly heartbreaking and definitely not value for money.”

“Tandoori fish was good in quality and quantity. But Customer service was not upto mark. It's too unwelcoming not as expecting like in other restaurants.”
