Swig Coffee
About Swig Coffee
Swig Coffee works as a specialty coffee shop in Stretford, Manchester, sitting on Edge Lane right by the Stretford tram stop, so getting there by Metrolink is straightforward. Kickback serves as the house coffee, with single origins rotated alongside it, and drinks come as espresso, pourover, batch brew or iced, with matcha ordered as often as the flat whites and lattes. The kitchen bakes its focaccia in house, and the counter carries pastries and home-made cakes including banana bread. Beyond the shop, the team runs a coffee van available for hire, which brings the coffee out to weddings and other events. Service is walk-in, with orders taken at the counter and no bookings, and the doors open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays. A step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs, seating outside suits anyone wanting to sit out with a drink, and dogs are welcome to come in with you.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return mostly for the flat white, with the coffee itself described as among the best in Stretford and Manchester. Matcha comes close behind, one reviewer calling it the real deal rather than fake ceremonial stuff, and others single out the batch brew and an oat milk cappuccino. Kickback is the house coffee, with single origins rotating through. On the food side, diners mention the croissant, in-house focaccia, homemade cake and banana bread, and one has gone through two loyalty cards. The owner gets repeated credit for his knowledge of brewing and for a coffee van that several first met or hired for a wedding. Staff are called friendly and quick without making customers feel rushed, and the music and cosy atmosphere come up as well. The one criticism is the toasted food choice: a reviewer found ham the only option they could eat and wished for another savoury selection, while still calling it their main coffee shop now. Several mention how close it sits to the Stretford tram stop.

“One of the best coffees in Manchester hands down. Kai (owner) is incredibly knowledgable about coffee, brewing methods and brings in a great range of coffee beans to try out. Kai also hires out his coffee van which we had at our wedding and it was such a great experience and again he churned out top quality coffee for many of our guests. We love Swig and would recommend it to anyone who loves their coffee.”

“Absolutely loved my morning at Swig, everything about it was lovely! The coffee created with such care and precision, the baked goods were so comforting and the atmosphere was so cosy. But my favourite thing was the customer service, I was greeted with genuine warmth, sincerity and kindness.”

“Unreal coffee shop in Manchester! Batch brew, flat white and oat milk cappuccino were all excellent! Staff are super cool and friendly. Service is unbelievably quick, but you don't feel rushed!”

“Great local independent coffee shop with very nice Kickback coffee. Sadly now the only decent independent coffee shop in Stretford but well worth supporting. I can recommend the coffee 3 ways.”

“Kai and the team are working hard to bring something different to Stretford with SWIG and The Doberman. Specialty Coffee in Stretford, patisserie, and other delicious things. I've followed Kai's journey since I was in Australia, and it's great to see him get the bricks and mortar store. You should check it out if you're looking for the best coffee in Stretford. What can you expect as Swig? Nice focaccia, sandwiches, pastries, toasties, and of course some decent coffee. They use Kickback for house and rotate through single origins at SWIG. The retail shelf is usually pretty interesting if you're looking for a souvenir. I usually get a flat white and a croissant, the use Flour & Soul for the patisserie and it's a good bakery. Focaccia is made in-house. They have pourover, espresso, batch brew, iced drinks and good matcha. No fake ceremonial stuff. The real deal. The cafe is cosy, but welcoming. The vibes are high, and the community seem to enjoy the place. I met a few coffee people there and they were having a good time. SWIG is just next to Stretford tram stop. You can cycle there along the canal. It is one of the better cafes to visit in Manchester in the local suburbs. Thanks for reading and follow my Instagram @thisladlovescoffee”
