About Caffe’ Massarella

Set inside the Ena Mill store in Manchester, Caffe' Massarella is a coffee shop with its seating out among the shop's departments, putting a sit-down stop within the same trip as the browsing. Orders go in at the till, with a queue at busier times, and the food is carried over. Hot barm cakes are a regular order, including hot beef and onion and hot pork and stuffing, and chips come alongside the barms and the pies. Sandwiches and paninis arrive with a small side salad, while the day's specials, soup among them, are advertised as they change. Lattes and other coffees run through the order book. No booking is taken, so it works on a walk-in basis, and it opens daily. A step-free entrance keeps the café reachable for visitors with mobility needs, high chairs are there for families with young children, and outdoor seating gives the option of eating outside.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee draws mixed reactions. One reviewer rated an extra shot latte very good, but others had lattes remade because they were nothing like lattes, and one called the coffee undrinkable. Service is the other recurring complaint, with one reviewer snapped at for asking for a knife, and another saying staff couldn't care less about a rock hard vanilla slice. A few call portions small for the cost, including a panini and a tuna sandwich with a meagre side salad. One reviewer found the sugary Mumbai chai latte and salted caramel milkshake disappointing, while another simply asked for hot water when the coffee was too strong.

“This cafe is inside Ena Mill in Leigh. Cafe can get quite busy but worth the wait. Good variety food wise. Plenty parking and inside toilets”

“Been here twice now; was a little disappointed on first visit, but gave them another chance. Just seems a little unprofessional. Food was reasonable on first visit, but had to ask for our coffees to be made again as they were nothing like lattes. Second attempt was only slightly better. Today, several specials were advertised, but no prices displayed. Soup was advertised at one price, but came up on the till at a different one (only 10p different, but how hard can it be?). I ordered a sandwich, which actually turned out to be a panini. That was OK for me, but may not suit everyone. It was also quite small for the price (£6) and didn't have much taste.”

“Staff need training on how to make Latte's! Coffee was undrinkable! Tuna Sandwich bland and boring! Side salad! Well the amount you get,I wouldn't bother putting it on the plate. Very disappointed.”
  • Ann Rickard
“Hot pork and stuffing barm with chips....chips over cooked and soaked up grease, 2 thin slices pork with a big very dry dollop of stuffing that was barely warm. Barm cake was toasted so over all very dry, and a wilting side salad soaked in balsamic. Nothing good to say about any of it. Extra shot latte was very good though!”
