Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what most reviewers return to, with several calling it cooked to perfection and one naming the bottom sides as a bonus. Close behind are the seafood dishes, including scallops one diner rates among the best they have had, a seafood platter, rock oysters and a scotch egg. Others single out the beef and marrow fat pie, fish and chips and an apple tarte tatin. Service is praised as attentive without being smothering, and the garden, covered pods and dog-friendly bar table get mentions. The caveats come from the lower ratings. One roast diner found the beef rubbery and the Yorkshire pudding stale, with small first servings of vegetables for four. Another describes watery cocktails and waiting staff who gather around the bar and are hard to flag down. One reviewer found the wine, water and bread expensive. Reviewers also recall a birthday cake with a candle and free shots of limoncello at the end of a meal.

“Came here for the Sunday roast and was very disappointed especially having read the reviews and looking through the menu beforehand. The beef was rubbery, the Yorkshire pudding and stale, the initial serving of veg and sides was quite small for 4 people (although I appreciate it was all you can eat and we can order more - just meant that we kept have to ask for more stuff). Saying that the staff were very responsive and really nice overall, and the pub had a lovely atmosphere to it. However, having chosen it specifically because of the quality promised through reviews I have to say it did not live up to the quality expected and would not say it was good value for money.”

“What a lovely pub. Had the seafood platter was absolutely amazing. Such a great platter with plenty of seafood. Says for 2 would be great as a starter for 4. wine @floc was perfect pairing. Will be going back again. Staff fantastic attentive without being annoying recommend”

“This is genuinely a five star Gastro pub. The food was delicious, both the Sunday roasts and a couple of the à la carte menu dishes, (like the excellent beef and marrow fat pie) as well as some of the starters. Really well cooked, and good value with the roast being under £30. The service was excellent, with a last-minute change to a dog friendly table in the bar being managed perfectly. The small birthday dessert for grandad was unexpected, as were the free shots of lemoncello at the end. We ate at 2:30 pm on a Sunday and it was relatively quiet which was very welcome. Mind you a lot of people were taking advantage of the unexpected April sunshine and had moved out into the garden and the quaint covered pods. I genuinely recommend this pub for a Sunday lunch.”

“Lovely food, brilliant service. Jay was great outside serving and the rest of the staff were super chill and attentive. Will 100% be back the food was super fresh and tasty. Atmosphere and setting of the inside looked great as well. And they served proper mayonnaise... Absolute winner haha.”

“The White Oak is an excellent gastro pub, that sits in the heart of the beautiful village of Cookham. Cookham sits on The Thames and offers beautiful walks by the river and stunning views from the surrounding countryside. The service was excellent and the quality of food was great, at a price that won't break the bank. Our Rock Oysters were nice and fresh, the scotch egg is an absolute must and our mains were substantial and delicious! The White Oak is a dog-friendly pub, water and dog treats were delivered to our table, which makes it the perfect end to a long walk with the four-legged friend in your life; I would highly recommend!”
