Customer Review Summary

The carvery is what reviewers raise most, and most verdicts are negative. Several describe it running short by mid afternoon or evening, with only the end of the turkey crown, a shrivelled bit of beef or no gammon left. Others mention fatty, barely warm beef and undercooked vegetables. One says the kitchen refused to bring out a fresh crown until the last turkey was eaten, and another left with a refund. Other complaints include a missing starter and then a missing main for a party of six, a raw cheesy garlic bread, a dry chocolate fudge cake, and only one ale on offer. Close behind is praise for one server, singled out repeatedly for going beyond the job. He improvised a limoncello style drink with lemon vodka and upgraded a sold out steak to a mixed grill at no extra cost. Diners also like the air conditioning on hot days and the quick kids burgers and beef loaded fries. One family finishes with caterpillar birthday cakes plated with cream and chocolate sauce.

“Party of 6 on a Wednesday evening (6pm). We all ordered starters and mains. The starters duly arrived, minus one! After waiting for a good 10 minutes, we had to go and ask for the missing one. It wasn't that great and no apology. Following on from this, our mains arrived and, yet again, minus one! Bearing in mind that we had spent over £180. Also, £21 for a white wine and soda spritzer!! Will definitely NOT be returning.”

“09 October 2026. Had a 40% off mains voucher so thought we’d give it a try. Had carvery. Wish we had not bothered. Grumpy staff. Almost cold food. Under cooked veg. No gammon and the last bit of beef and turkey at 7pm. . Very disappointing.”

“This used to be a good pub. Not Amy more. Bought 2 carveries - went up to get - no turkey for an hour, the gammon looked very dry & all that was left of the beef was a shrivelled-up tiny bit. Got our money back & left. Also the whole place is grubby. Needs a deep clean; tables left for ages after people had left with food spread all over them & on the floor. Give it a miss people.”

“Paid an impromptu visit to The Elms today after our existing plans changed. Table of 4 adults and 3 children on our 9 year olds birthday. Between us we ordered from the sharer menu (beef loaded fries), the kids menu (cheese burgers and a bbq chicken burger) and the carvery. We were all impressed with our food, which came quickly despite it being busy with not that many staff from what we could see. The best part of our visit though had to be the amazing service we received from Dylan, who noticed that one of our boys was wearing a birthday badge and went out of his way to make it special. He made sure I could sneak the cake we’d brought in to him without it being noticed, found us candles when I discovered that ours had been left at home and brought out the best presented caterpillar cakes I’ve ever seen, having plated them up beautifully with added cream and chocolate sauce 😍 Massive thank you, Dylan, for turning a last minute meal into a really special moment for a very happy birthday boy!”

“Used to come here all the time as a child with my family and it has gone downhill dramatically. The staff are lovely, and so no blame us to come to them at all. The food was awful. I had a carvery and the beef was fatty and therefore unchewable while being barely warm, my mother's food never arrived and had to be refunded, and the chocolate fudge cake was dry. But, the staff were very kind and understanding and I hope they do well and please do not redirect the problems onto them as they are simply trying to do their jobs. Hopefully they can be better in the future.”
