About Hong Buffet
On George St. in Luton, Hong Buffet is a buffet restaurant at 40-44 with Chinese, Indian, Italian and sushi sections, so a table can mix cuisines in one meal. Chinese favourites such as spring rolls, shrimps, fried rice and sweet and sour sauce sit alongside the other sections. Dessert covers cakes, cheesecake and fruit, with a chocolate fountain. Soft drinks and juices come with the buffet. Lunchtime runs as a buffet, while dinner has its own menu with a BBQ station. The restaurant is open daily, and the staff mainly clear plates from the tables while guests serve themselves.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the value of an unlimited buffet with soft drinks included, and to the Chinese dishes at its center, with fried rice, sweet and sour sauce, and crisp spring rolls and shrimps singled out. Close behind are the desserts, where one diner says the cheesecakes taste like real cheesecake, and others mention a chocolate fountain. Several call the staff friendly and helpful, though one found them not very friendly. Food outside the Chinese section draws mixed comments: plain pizzas that tasted frozen, a dry tikka masala, and Indian dishes and sushi that were not up to par. Cleanliness is the main complaint. Two reviewers describe stained plastic tablecloths, one calling them sticky, and others mention sticky floors, worn and torn seat covers, and a slight smell of urine. One reviewer reports that their party felt nauseous after a dinner visit, where the meat was called barely edible and the BBQ station looked tired. Another objects to unpackaged sweets and uncovered sushi left out for people to talk over.

“Good value for the money if you can eat a lot. You can see the effort to keep everything nice and working but there are some things that need attention. All in all I was there for food and my goal was achieved :) I would have to go again because it is impossible to have a bit of everything in one day :) and maybe at that point the fifth star gets there too ;)”

“Been invited to eat here twice. It will be the last time I go. I no longer enjoy buffets in general as I think it is unhygienic having so many people in and out of food. This place doesn't feel clean at all. They have this yellow table cloth on tables that are stained and sticky. Floors are sticky. The place has a slight smell of urine too. Decor needs updating. Chairs need updating. Staff polite though but they don't seem to prioritise cleaning. Food is average tasting. I felt put off eating due to the unclean feel. Sweets (haribo type) are unpackaged and just laid out which I think is very unhygienic. Sushi openly displayed and so are some prawn crackers. I don't like this because it is left open for people to touch and talk over and drop saliva as they talk.”

“The dining experience was satisfactory, with the food being acceptable. The service was primarily focused on table clearing, which is typical for a buffet setting. The ambiance was rather ordinary, reminiscent of a canteen where guests were primarily focused on their meals. The only minor inconvenience encountered was a slight delay at the entrance. It appears their online booking system could benefit from improvements, as the deposit payment functionality was not operational. Furthermore, with only one staff member attending to the tills, it is unclear how a reservation system would effectively manage guest flow, as the current operation seems to favor a first-come, first-served approach.”

“We visited Hong Buffet in Luton for dinner today and unfortunately left feeling very disappointed. I'm hoping this review is taken as constructive feedback because this restaurant has the potential to be much better. The first issue was the pricing. We have visited previously for the lunchtime buffet, but the dinner menu is almost double the price without offering anything that justifies the extra cost. Apart from a BBQ station, which looked tired and poorly maintained, there was very little difference. We paid £52 for two adults and one six-year-old, with just a £2 NHS discount. The overall experience simply did not reflect the price. Once seated, the hygiene and condition of the restaurant were immediately noticeable. For the amount charged, I expected a much higher standard. The plastic tablecloth was stained, the seat covers were worn, torn and marked, and the restaurant generally felt neglected rather than clean and well maintained. The food itself was the biggest disappointment. Much of it tasted stale, as though it had been reheated several times, and a large proportion consisted of frozen, deep-fried items. The desserts were basic frozen cakes cut into very small pieces, which did little to justify the premium price. The quality of the meat was particularly poor and, in our opinion, barely edible. To make matters worse, all of us came home feeling nauseous and unwell after eating there. This restaurant could have great potential if management invested more in cleanliness, food quality and the overall dining experience. At its current standard, the prices are far too high for what is being offered. I hope this feedback is taken on board so that future customers receive the quality of food and service they are paying for.”

“Amazing little gem in Luton. Prices are decent and includes drinks which is very rare at other buffet places. The variety is a good amount, and dishes are delicious. Staff are absolutely amazing, great customer service.”
