About Karwan Restaurant Luton

On Moor St in Luton, Karwan Restaurant Luton is an Afghan restaurant open daily at number 5-7. Tables start with complimentary tea with jaggery, and the bread arrives as tall tandoori naan on a stand, made for sharing around the table. The menu includes Kabuli pulao served with carrots and raisins, plus a mixed grill that features kebabs, so a group can order several plates and pass them across. Baklava is among the desserts. Weekends and Friday evenings are the busiest times, and a wait for a table is common then.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the daal and the Kabuli pulao, with the rice praised for its carrots and raisins and the meat called tender and juicy. Close behind are the lamb chops, lamb karahi and mixed grill, with the chapli kebab, lamb nihari, baklava, kheer and milk cake also named. Portions are described as generous, often served with a very large tandoori roti or naan on a stand, and one reviewer mentions complimentary tea with jaggery. Staff draw repeated praise for friendliness, including quick handling of a large group and making space for evening prayers. The main complaint is crowding. Several describe a full, noisy entrance area and a wait for a table, and one says drinks had to be requested multiple times and conversation was difficult with two children. One reviewer found the mixed grill and shank portions small, the kebabs only ok, and the meal poor value compared with another Afghan restaurant. One reviewer suggests pre-booking, and another found the street parking tricky.

“We visited Karwan on Friday evening after it came highly recommended by my brother, and it certainly lived up to expectations. Although the restaurant was very busy, there was plenty of seating available and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The staff were incredibly accommodating and even made space for me to perform my evening prayers, which was greatly appreciated. The menu offered an excellent variety of dishes, giving us plenty of choice. Despite how busy the restaurant was, we didn't have to wait long for our food, which arrived fresh, hot, and beautifully presented. The lamb chops were the highlight of the meal—perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned exceptionally well. The daal was equally impressive and honestly one of the best daals I've ever had—rich, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. While the prices are slightly on the higher side, the quality of the food more than justifies the cost. The staff were friendly, attentive, and professional throughout our visit, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. To finish, we shared some baklava, which was beautifully made and the perfect end to a fantastic meal. Overall, a wonderful dining experience and somewhere we would happily return to. Highly recommended.”

“It was very crowded as I had to wait 30 mins before getting a table but it was all worth it we got the grill with kebabs and wings and rice for 65 pounds and it was plenty for 5-7 people the meat was freshly cooked and the sauces were spot on and the salad at the start was also really nice and the tall 2ft tandoori roti was mesmerizing and the best part is we going to enjoy this is a proper afgani style searing area. Overall, highly recommend going to this restaurant for authentic experience”

“I’ve eaten at many Afghan restaurants over the years, and Kabuli Pulao is always my favorite dish to judge a place by. The Kabuli Pulao at Karwan Restaurant was absolutely amazing. The meat was incredibly tender and juicy, with no unpleasant smell at all…..something I’ve unfortunately experienced in many other places. Here, it was just perfect. The lamb karahi was outstanding, cooked beautifully with rich, delicious spices that made every bite memorable. The staff were wonderful, and a special mention to Rida, who served us with such friendliness and politeness. Her warm service really added to the whole experience. A fantastic meal and a place I’ll definitely return to!”
