About Fiorentini

Fiorentini works as an old-style Italian café and fish and chips shop on Strand Road in Londonderry, where Italian décor sits alongside classical music and the Italian owner-chef whistles and sings along to Italian songs while he cooks. The kitchen batters and fries haddock, serving it with homemade chips cooked in beef dripping. Ice cream sundaes run to a long list, from chocolate and honeycomb to Teddy Bear's Picnic, and tea and Italian coffee are poured through the day, with a fry available alongside an americano or a tea. Tables are taken on a walk-in basis, and since the place is family-run and often busy, a wait is possible. High chairs make room for families with young children, and a step-free entrance lets visitors with mobility needs get in without help. The doors open Wednesday to Sunday, with Mondays and Tuesdays closed.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. One reviewer found a banana and butterscotch sundae disappointing, mostly sauce and cream with hardly any ice cream, and several mention understaffing and a long wait. One parent was refused the toilet for a 4 year old, told it was for customers only, and said they would stop buying chips there. One reviewer also warns of odd opening times.

“Wouldn’t bother go anywhere else for chips! This must be the only place in town cooking their chips in Beef drippings, the way chips should be cooked! Really good battered fish! Old school Italian family ran chippy, hard to beat.”

“Was with a 4 year old in my arms and asked if he could use the bathroom. We were then told that it was for customers only, usually I would understand if it was myself but for a 4 year old to be refused to use the toilet is disgusting. I have bought my chips here many times as have my extended family but no more. For a family run restaurant in Derry you would think the customer service would be better. I spoke with another staff member who said they would never allow my son to use the toilet as it costs 2000pounds a year in water rates. Well you just lost a lot of customers with my family so enjoy the penny you saved on refusing a 4 year old the toilet.”

“Very nostalgic decor, felt like I was on holiday. Best fish and homemade chips we've had. Would travel from Belfast just for this!”

“One of the nicest fish and chip meals I’ve had! Fried haddock cooked to perfection with a huge portion of delicious cooked chips that tasted like the ones we had growing up! Served with a couple of lemon wedges and salt and vinegar it didn’t need anything else …I’m sure it’s cooked in beef dripping and it certainly makes a difference with the taste! Served with a pot of tea and I had to try one of their ice cream sundaes. I opted for the chocolate and honeycomb one which was very good. I like that they only have vanilla ice cream as it’s done very well and they’ve got a huge selection of various options for Sundays so I’m sure it’s the perfect ice cream parlour option for children.! The owner / chef was whistling all the classic Italian ballads … better than the radio! I struggled so eat all my food as the portions were huge but highly recommended!”
